As a Software Development Manager, you will be managing technology teams to help innovate and build the future of Appstore. You will be directly responsible for defining and building the next generation products & features for Amazon Appstore. You will be working with a unique and gifted team developing new, exciting and cutting-edge products for consumers. The team is a multidisciplinary group of engineers, scientists, and business people engaged in a fast-paced mission to deliver these new products by balancing technical invention, cost, schedule, and performance requirements. You should be comfortable collaborating regularly with colleagues across many of Amazon’s current businesses, including devices, retail, and AWS.

Key job responsibilities

• Manage a team of high caliber Software Engineers working on building world class, scalable distributed systems

• Recruit, hire, mentor, and coach Software Development Engineers at different levels of experience

• Work with key stakeholders in product management and executive teams to define strategy and requirements

• Manage ambiguity and competing priorities while staying focused on short term and long-term goals

• Manage and execute against project plans and delivery commitments within an Agile/Scrum environment

• Contribute to and lead design, architecture, process and development discussions

• Create processes, mechanisms, and tools that shape the delivery of the program

• Own all operational metrics and support for your team’s software

• Drive improvements in software engineering practices across engineering teams

• Earn trust through regular communication with senior management on status, risks and change control

About the team

In Appstore, “We entertain, and delight, hundreds of millions of people across devices with a vast selection of relevant apps, games, and services by making it trivially easy for developers to deliver”. Appstore team enables the customer and developer flywheel on devices by enabling developers to seamlessly launch and manage their apps/ in-app content on Amazon. It helps customers discover, buy and engage with these apps on Fire TV, Fire Tablets and Android 3P Mobile devices. The technologies we build on vary from device software, to high scale services, to efficient tools for developers.

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of engineering experience

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience

• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
