The Large Power Systems Division currently has a Sr. Engineering Specialist - Design position open in Global Thermal Manager Solutions, located in Chennai, India.

This position has been created to guide and support the professional growth of our GTMS-IN product development team. The incumbent will be expected to provide technical leadership to a cross-functional team with direct focus on emerging regional suppliers. Development our technical team is the primary objective of this role, which will also include oversight of our suppliers’ development and production activities to ensure robust design, development, validation and manufacturing standard processes of our cooling systems components. These components will be leveraged by our Engine, Gen-Set / IMOG, Machine, and Electrification product groups for regional consumption and export to Caterpillar manufacturing facilities worldwide. This role will coach and mentor our team with accountabilities for the system integration and product optimization to advance our technology footprint, as well as our regional supply base.

Additionally, renewed focus on New Source Implementation (NSI), Assurance of Supply (AoS), and Life-Cycle Optimization / planning with our key suppliers will be a key deliverable of this role. Sourcing strategies will be created and governed by this position, in close collaboration with our Global NSI team with the deliverable of driving long-term planning and close collaboration with product group manufacturing footprint strategies. The incumbent will be accountable for strategic product and manufacturing footprint development – regionally, and through export growth initiatives - of NPI (New Product Introduction), NTI (New Technology Implementation), and / or NSI projects.

This position will advise and counsel focused teams who will lead application programs to generate the most value of our cooling component hardware in alignment with product group deliverables and program expectations.

Job Duties for each position may include, but are not limited to :

  • Accountable for providing guidance to an extended cross-functional team to develop solutions that meet commonality, modularity, and scalable design and sourcing strategy demands

  • Output from this role will be measured in the technical and programmatic excellence of the GTMS-IN team, who will be mentored and coached by this position to provide technically sound solutions for our regional and global Caterpillar manufacturing footprint

  • Develop and oversee long-range focus on technical advancements (design, validation, manufacturing) and to mentor team members on product and supply-base strategies

  • Perform as spokesperson for the team in meetings with multiple levels of management and a wide range of application-focused process partners.

  • Develop strong networks to enable teamwork across LPSD, IPSD, E+ES, RI, CI & PSLD

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelors of Science - Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent in the Thermal Sciences) from an accredited university

  • 15+ years of cooling system product development, engineering specialist, and / or team leadership experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility

  • 10+ years in a Technical Team Lead with manufacturing experience

  • Deep experience of cooling product design & validation, cost analysis & business planning, and assembly / manufacturing processes

  • Direct experience with design, development and manufacturing of cooling sub-components and assemblies

  • Strong coaching and mentoring experiences with demonstrated background in team-building, customer focus, and planning for future resource flexibility to facilitate decision making and to drive progress

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Master of Engineering Degree, or Master of Business Administration Degree from an Accredited University

  • Development experience with machine and electrification cooling components and systems

  • 20+ years of direct cooling products experience

  • Cooling component performance and validation background with demonstrated cooling systems integration experience

  • Experience with APQP, NSI Programs, Electrification Applications, supplier development and Lean Principles
