McDermott Piping Engineer in Chennai, India
Job Overview:
The Piping Engineer applies their conceptual knowledge of Piping and, with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward Piping problems. They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures and building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. The Piping Engineer understands key business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Perform FEED, Studies, and detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on more complex and demanding engineering tasks
Apply knowledge and skills to complete varied assignments
Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses, including design reports and procedures
Prioritize and organize own work to meet deadlines
Focus on completing work within budgets
Clearly communicate and explain information in straightforward engineering activities
Focus on health and safety policies and procedures
Gain familiarity with the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements, including identifying concerns as early as practicable
Initiate interface with other disciplines to obtain input for discipline designs
Prepare design calculations as required
Familiar with P&ID Line List, Equipment List, Layout, Piping Specifications, and design basis
Perform engineering checks prepared by others within the discipline
Perform design verification through single discipline check and assist with inter-discipline checks (IDC)
Provide engineering support as required
Assist in the preparation of subcontract documents
Prepare a list of Special Piping Items, Piping and Valves specification, and datasheets
Review P&IDs with reference to Piping Material and Valve specification
Provide input for Linelist, including NDE
Perform Pipe Stress Analysis and prepare reports
Provide critical pipe support loads to Civil/Structural
Perform design calculations such as pipe wall thickness, reinforcement pad, trunnion support, etc
Prepare Material Requisitions, Technical queries, Tech Bid Evaluations, and Purchase Requisitions for Engineered Piping Equipment
Review vendor data
Review Piping MTO with respect to Material Requisition
Provide input to the Piping Subcontract
Alert the team of any deviation from the Scope of work or a need for a change order
Reports to:
Project: Senior Piping Engineer, Lead Engineer
Functional: Supervising Department Manager
Liaise With: All design/drafting disciplines, all Engineering disciplines, Construction site/Fabrication groups, and Document
Control
Supervises: Trainee Engineers
Essential Qualifications and Education:
Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Engineering
3-8 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail design
Familiar with the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
Knowledge of many basic design techniques and analysis methods
Preferably Registered Engineer in Training (ElT) or member of professional engineering society as applicable
Eager to learn
Working knowledge of English, both oral and written
HSE, TQM, and cost-conscious
Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:
The reassignment to other departments, construction sites, and fabrication yards
The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays
The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable
The managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications
Accredited engineering degree as may be required by specific regions
Familiar with the use of codes and standards
