Ford Motor Company Manager-Legal in Chennai, India

The Legal Manager will manage the Litigation portfolio of Ford India as well as have opportunities to support litigation matters outside the Indian market and potentially provide Company Secretarial duties depending on capacity and qualifications.

Handling cases of Civil, Consumerism, Industrial, Commercial, Criminal, Competition Law, Labour, Property Law matters and dealership matters.

• Working closely with external counsels, solicitor firms, state and central authorities to achieve optimal solutions and contribute to the business.

• Handling dealership, vendor and third-party supplier disputes, vetting, and drafting of Show Cause Notices and other correspondence.

• Appearing as a management representative in adjudication, arbitration, conciliation, domestic inquiry proceedings, and legal cases.

• Working with dealership team and customer relationship team on any assistance they require from a legal perspective.

• Reviewing, drafting, and vetting pleadings, affidavits, and other legal documentation.

• Proactively formulating litigation strategies by anticipating and evaluating risk factors and suggesting steps for mitigation to safeguard business interests.

• Managing dispute resolution, early resolution, preventing escalations, and handling litigation/arbitration.

• Strategizing conflict management to ensure the least risk/cost outcomes.

• Generating Management Information Reports (MIRs) on litigation and risk reporting.

• Conducting legal research on relevant regulations applicable to the auto industry.

• Handling other legal assignments as entrusted by the company, including opportunities to provide support for Ford’s litigation matters outside the Indian market.

• Handling engagements of law firms & keep a check on legal payments to the law firms.

• Internal reporting on litigation reserves and contingent liabilities and monthly reporting on litigation to the senior management.

• Potential to be appointed company secretary of one of Ford’s corporate entities in India depending upon capacity and qualifications.

Graduate in LL.B.

• 8-10 years of Post Qualification Experience (PQE) in litigation.

• Company Secretary Qualifications desirable but not essential.

• Thorough knowledge of the Indian Legal System.

• Experience in legal support of a manufacturing business and experience in the auto industry is desirable.

• Sound legal knowledge and an analytical approach to legal issues (exposure to project management).

• Exposure to contract and consumer disputes, including alternate dispute resolution mechanisms.

• Ability to work in a team with good communication and drafting skills.

• Extensive experience collaborating across different business units.
