Job Description

AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Pipeline Design Engineer specialist for Water Infrastructure projects with a home base in Chelmsford, MA, or Rocky Hill, CT. but candidate should be willing to travel. It is expected that this role will provide support to projects throughout New England as well as throughout America and Canada.

The qualified applicant will have extensive experience in large diameter (greater than 24-in.) water/wastewater/stormwater pipeline design, analysis, installation, inspection, leak detection, proactive management to extend useful life and condition assessment for a variety of pipe materials. The preferred candidate will have a strong technical background in condition assessment and implementing management solutions for large diameter pressurized water systems.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Serve as a leading technical advisor to multiple project directors and project managers with a variety of needs related to existing and new pipelines.

  • Prepare work plans and scopes of work and work directly on projects from large linear programs to small condition assessment projects to provide state-of-the-art condition assessment and pipeline rehabilitation/management solutions for a variety of water/wastewater and stormwater clients.

  • Participate directly on pipeline condition assessment and rehabilitation projects.

  • Lead and/or oversee the design of pipeline rehabilitation projects that may be needed following condition assessment projects.

  • Provide technical leadership and direction on the selection of condition assessment and rehabilitation strategies, including knowledge of the specialty assessment and rehabilitation technologies.

  • Provide technical and strategic leadership and direction in the topic of large diameter water system assessment and rehabilitation.

  • Review proposed scopes of work and support proposal development to provide clients technically sound pipe solutions while strategically positioning AECOM to win new business.

  • Travel to relevant national conferences, author papers, participate on national committees, and develop an industry leading position for the topic area.

  • Serve as a mentor/leader to less experienced staff

  • Assess trends in the market place and lead strategy with support from local and national staff to capture expanded suite of services AECOM can offer clients

  • Lead and assist with client presentations for expanded suite of services

  • Assist in preparation of proposals

Minimum Requirements :

  • Extensive project experience in water/wastewater/stormwater pipeline design, analysis, installation, inspection, leak detection, and proactive management to extend useful life and condition assessment for a variety of pipe materials.

  • Understanding of various methods and technologies to perform condition assessment and rehabilitation of large diameter pressurized pipelines. An understanding of the limitations of such techniques is desired.

  • Bachelors Degree and 8+ years of experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license

  • Self-motivated, requiring minimal oversight.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • 12+ years of extensive project experience in water/wastewater/stormwater pipeline design, analysis, installation, inspection, leak detection, proactive management to extend useful life and condition assessment for a variety of pipe materials

  • Master's Degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering

  • Trenchless design experience

  • Large diameter (24” diameter and greater) pipeline experience

  • Pipeline condition assessment and rehabilitation experience

  • Licensed PE in the state of MA or CT
