Xylem Plate Press Operator- 2nd Shift in Cheektowaga, New York

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Sets-up the Stamping Press, swaps the die/punch in the Form Tooling, maintains a log of preventative maintenance done on the tooling, loads and operates press. Must be able to load recipes into the press (training will be provided) and enter the program into the control manager on the press.

  • Monitors Press output while the press is running, randomly inspects plate stacks and, troubleshoots press when necessary. Fills in Heat numbers on checklists and records any other relevant data on inspection documents required.

  • Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of current practices, methods, techniques and principles of operation of various types of equipment, machines, tools, fixtures and instruments.

  • Rig and operate crane, forklift truck, handcart, etc. to handle, move, and position parts and/or units within or between departments.

  • Interprets drawings, checklists, specifications, routings, and procedures used in the fabrication of components and units. Inspects work to ensure compliance to all the aforementioned documents.

  • Unloads carriers, uncrates, unpack, separates, processes receipts and stores materials. Enters appropriate information into database via computer, scanners, bar code equipment or manually generated forms.

  • Obtains required information from and performs transactions on computer terminals as directed. Make business system electronic entries as directed to account for labor, inventory and job/part status.

  • Load and run the Braze furnace and determines applicable program for parts/units and enters program into controls, monitors process and inspects parts.

  • Plans and carries out all the tasks related to assembling, and testing Gasketed plate and Brazed Plate product.

  • Identifies parts with contract, model number, heat number, part number or other markings as directed. Verifies all material used is correct (quality, type, etc.) prior to the start of work.

  • Performs sorting, identification and stocking of materials. Generates labels, sorts and tags materials, racks and storage bins.

  • Ensures unit/part cleanliness per specification, customer requirement and/or procedure prior to releasing to paint/packaging. Prepares and mounts nameplates to units. Prepares unit/parts as required prior to painting.

  • Paint and package units and parts as necessary for shipment to customers or subcontractors

  • Each person is responsible for verifying the quality of work through inspection and checking to insure that all their work meet specifications.

  • Obtain materials, fixtures, and tools necessary to perform assigned duties. Rig and operate forklift truck, handcart, etc. to handle, move, and position materials, tooling, tools and/or fixtures within or between departments.

  • Observe all safety and shop rules and notify supervisor of any unsafe conditions.

  • Notify supervisor immediately of any shortages in work-center supplies, machine malfunction, quality issues, raw material problem, or problems with in process or completed work.

  • Overtime and all work assignments will be at the discretion of the supervisor. Individuals accepting overtime must be qualified to perform the job function being worked.

  • Assists and/or trains new employees in job classification.

  • Maintain required level of housekeeping and safe environment throughout work area(s), sweeps area(s), clears debris, arranges product, etc. on a daily basis to assure this. Immediately notifies supervisor of any unsafe conditions or work related injury. Perform 5s activities.

  • Verify all gauges and measuring tools are within proper calibration dates prior to using. Deliver and retrieve gages and measuring tools from calibration collection points.

  • Enter clock number, heat numbers or other required data on paperwork (router, checklist, etc.) or electronic data system collection device per procedure or as directed to indicate operator has inspected his/her work and it conforms to the applicable fabrication and test requirements (drawings, specs, etc.) and to maintain record of fabrication.

  • Wears, cleans and properly maintains all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Participates in air and noise sampling when directed.

  • Perform daily safety checks on power vehicles and record findings on check off sheets

  • PAY- $23.24/hour plus shift differential

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalency

Experience

  • Pass a test.

  • Basic familiarity with Computers (Windows Operating system), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Explorer), is required.

  • Hands-on experience with Calipers, depth gages, Micrometers etc.

  • Capable of reading drawings, blueprints and convert dimensions from Metric to English and vice-versa.

  • Qualified as a PPA, and be assigned to the classification within the past two years of bidding.
