General Summary:

Job Title: Software Engineer II

Job Summary: As a Software Engineer II, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions within our business portfolio. With minimal oversight, you'll leverage your technical expertise to deliver high-quality software by collaborating with agile team members, applying unit testing, and using continuous integration practices. You will also mentor junior engineers, estimate work accurately, and apply critical thinking to solve complex technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain new and existing software features for the business portfolio.

  • Accurately estimate the effort required for feature development.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including Business Analysts and UX designers, to ensure software solutions meet business requirements and are efficiently implemented.

  • Lead and participate in code reviews, sprint retrospectives, and continuous improvement efforts within the agile team.

  • Ensure software quality through manual and automated testing and adherence to continuous integration practices.

  • Communicate daily with the Scrum Master or Team Lead to report progress, address impediments, and plan for upcoming work.

  • Lead proof-of-concept work and prototyping as needed.

  • Collaborate with Test Engineers to ensure software meets the definition of done and transitions smoothly through production stages.

  • Stay updated on project progress using Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools and participate in daily standups.

  • Foster an innovative culture by evaluating and applying new technologies and processes to improve software delivery.

  • Work with Technical Support Engineers to transition software features to production, ensuring performance and stability.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in software development with a proven track record of successful project delivery.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Agile Development Methodologies.

  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and innovative problem solver.

  • Ability to handle complex technical problems and optimize systems.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong team player capable of working effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$73,300.00-$143,300.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
