We are seeking a skilled Assembly Specialist to join our team. This role involves designing and building prototypes for fixtures, improving existing gauges, and supporting vehicle quality issue analysis. You will work closely with the technical group 'Assembly Shop' within the Pilot Hall and contribute to product launches and the optimization of production processes.
Responsibilities
Check gauges to support vehicle quality issue analysis
Design and build prototypes for fixtures used in series production
Improve existing fixtures and gauges
Support cross-functional teams with the creation of analysis tools and/or prototype product simulations
Design check gauges for analysis and build these gauges using machine shop equipment (5 axis CNC mill, CNC lathe, rapid prototyping machine, drill press, belt grinder, etc.)
Analyze product launches by supporting prototype/pre-series build
Monitor new product launches and evaluate risks for future quality or manufacturing issues during the pre-series phase
Perform manual measurements for specific problem analysis
Cross-reference measurement data with technical drawings and other specifications
Review part and assembly concepts to verify design intent
Support the design of check and assembly gauges for series production use
Participate in root cause analysis concerning failures of new design in whole car groups and interrelated systems
Optimize process arrangements to assure built-in quality can be achieved by the production team member
Organize machine shop equipment and determine necessary investments to maintain availability
Administer special tools and determine any investment requirements
Perform basic maintenance on tool room equipment
Support the Supervisor with coordination of tasks and lead the team when required (Pre-Series/Series)
Essential Skills
Eight (8) years of automotive assembly or equivalent experience and/or repair experience with VW or Audi brand vehicles; or an associate’s degree in automotive technology plus five (5) years of experience
Technical apprenticeship/vocational training and/or equivalent experience in automotive production/quality
Experience in welding and metal fabrication
Ability to read blueprints
Precision gauge and tolerance indexing
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Skill in fabricating jigs using machine shop equipment
Advanced prototype builds
Experience in analyzing vehicle issues
Ability to design jigs for vehicle builds
Experience with CAD data design
Good communication, influencing, integrating, and negotiating skills
High level of emotional intelligence
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Blueprint reading skills

Ability to lift 50 pounds

Work Environment
This role is based on the assembly floor, where you will work with a variety of machine shop equipment and tools. The position offers a contract opportunity with the possibility of permanent hire. Additional benefits include premium pay, paid time off (PTO), and holiday billable hours.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr.
