Carver County Deputy Sheriff Cadet in Chaska, Minnesota

Under general supervision, a Deputy Sheriff Cadet attends a Professional Peace Officer Education Program to obtain the required academic, technical and physical skills necessary to perform as a licensed peace officer in the State of Minnesota. This temporary classification is a non-sworn, short duration, entry-level position and classification, designed and anticipated to be limited in duration to coincide with the dates of schooling. Incumbents in this job classification receive county paid education and training in a controlled academic environment, to include indoor and outdoor classrooms and physical activities. Incumbents must successfully complete the Professional Peace Officer Education Program and the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Licensing Exam. Peace officer licensure eligibility is a requirement for progression to Deputy Sheriff. Failure to successfully complete the Minnesota POST Board licensing exam at the end to the training program may result in termination. Incumbents are expected to comply with and sign an agreement which commits them to work as a Carver County Deputy Sheriff for a period of not less than 36 months. Employees who voluntarily leave employment prior to the completion of the 36 month agreement are required to reimburse the county for training and tuition expenses. The tentative timeline for this position is as follows: Late May/Early June - In-person interviews at the Carver County Sheriff's Office. June-August - Selected candidates will complete background investigation, pre-placement physical, and psychological assessment. October 15, 2024 - School begins at Hennepin Technical College. Cadets will start employment with Carver County approximately two weeks prior to the school start date. School is expected to last until mid-March, 2025. Attend and successfully complete in the identified Professional Peace Officer Education Program to obtain academic, technical and physical skills necessary to perform the duties of a Deputy Sheriff. Maintain appropriate physical conditioning to ensure successful completion of the technical component (skills); Successful completion of Minnesota POST Licensing Exam; Agree to provide an employment commitment of at least three (3) years as a Deputy Sheriff; Perform related duties as required.
