University of Virginia Open Rank: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Women Gender & Sexuality in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the ranks of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor working in the areas of gender and sexuality studies with specific expertise in Global Souths, Diasporas, Transnationalism, or Migration studies. For instance, we welcome scholars whose work is invested in the geographies, histories, and intellectual traditions of Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and/or the Pacific. We especially encourage applications from scholars who take a critical approach to the domains of health and law broadly conceived.

The program of Women, Gender, and Sexuality was founded 44 years ago with a uniquely global emphasis. The program became a department in 2017. It enjoys a warm and vibrant culture of excellence and collegiality. It has the highest proportion of faculty who have won all-University teaching awards of any unit at UVa and faces significant student demand for courses in topics beyond the U.S.

In addition to pursuing an outstanding research program, the successful candidate will be expected to provide excellent instruction and advising to a diverse population of students. The ideal candidate will be committed to interdisciplinarity and able to effectively work with colleagues across various disciplines, subfields, and backgrounds.

For priority consideration, applications must be received by November 1; however, the position will remain open until filled. The appointment begins in the fall term of 2025 with an anticipated start date of August 2025. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.

Candidates are required to hold a Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree by time of appointment. ABD candidates will be considered for the assistant professor rank. Applicants should have an excellent record of research, teaching, and service commensurate with level of appointment.
