University of Virginia Director, Galant Center for Entrepreneurship: Open Rank, General Faculty in Charlottesville, Virginia

The McIntire School of Commerce invites applications for the position of Faculty Director for the Galant Center for Entrepreneurship. Founded in 2008 through the generous support of Mark E. Galant (McIntire '80), the Galant Center inspires students to embrace entrepreneurship by encouraging, educating, and empowering them to make meaningful contributions to the new venture community. The Center fosters innovation and entrepreneurial activity across the McIntire School and the University of Virginia, impacting the world and creating value in a myriad of ways.

This part-time director's role (0.25 FTE) could increase to as much as a full-time faculty (tenure ineligible) position. A full-time position requires teaching 18 credits and a graduate degree in a related field. Teaching subjects may include entrepreneurship or other disciplines (Accounting, Finance, Information Technology & Innovation, Management, or Marketing) based on the candidate's expertise.

Position Overview:

The Faculty Director is a leadership position responsible for advancing the mission of the Galant Center and ensuring its alignment with McIntire’s strategic plan. The Director will guide the Center’s operations, foster a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, and engage with alumni, industry leaders, and academic partners to expand opportunities for students, faculty and alumni.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a vision for the Center that supports entrepreneurship and innovation within McIntire and across the University.

  • Programming and Engagement: Oversee and grow the Center’s events, competitions, and experiential learning opportunities to enhance student engagement and impact.

  • Partnership Development: Build and maintain relationships with leading companies, entrepreneurs, alumni, donors, and other units at the University to enhance resources and opportunities for students.

  • Fundraising and Resource Management: In close partnership with the School’s Advancement Team, secure financial support for the Center through alumni and donor engagement, and oversee the Center’s budget and resource allocation.

About the Galant Center: The Galant Center catalyzes entrepreneurial activity by supporting courses, competitions, events, and experiences that develop student potential. By leveraging McIntire’s strengths and collaborating across the University, the Center equips students with the knowledge, skills, and networks to drive innovation and change. The Center’s signature event is the Galant Challenge which is our annual pitch competition which connects seed through A round ventures associated with the University community with potential investors. In 2023, the Challenge raised more than $15 million for pitching teams to take their ventures to the next level.
