University of Virginia Assistant Professor, Academic General Faculty - Engagements in Charlottesville, Virginia

The University of Virginia’s College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor, General Faculty on the teaching track, expected to begin August 10, 2024 and appointed for a three-year term. This is a nine month, tenure-ineligible appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon available funding, satisfactory performance, and need for the position.

The successful candidate will be joining the College of Arts & Sciences community during a significant era of transformation for the undergraduate landscape, including the launch of a new undergraduate advising model. Reporting to the Co-Directors of the Engagements Program, the Assistant Professor, General Faculty serves as a member of the general faculty with teaching and service obligations to the Engagements Program. The Assistant Professor, General Faculty will teach 5 courses over the academic year (67% of position), and will serve the following administrative functions of the NCC (33% of position): a. coordinate and improve upon the Engagements Experience, with particular focus on co-developing the associated advising curriculum for the first-year undergraduate experience; b. help facilitate College Fellows (faculty and postdoctoral fellow) hiring and training; c. informally advise on the College Fellows program and other components of the Engagements ; d. other duties as determined in conjunction with the Engagement Co-Directors. Candidates with interdisciplinary and curricular design experience are preferred.

Qualifications include an appropriate terminal degree, a demonstrated pedagogic engagement with the liberal arts and sciences, and a demonstrated commitment to cultivating advanced research in a multi-disciplinary setting such as that of the College of Arts and Sciences. Experience working with diverse student and faculty populations and in general education reform and/or faculty professional development is especially desirable.
