About the Role:
The Sustainability Data Scientist is responsible for compiling and analyzing CBRE’s corporate sustainability data to track and report progress towards CBRE's sustainability goals. In this role, you will utilize analytical, statistical and programming skills to collect, analyze and interpret large datasets to help develop data-driven insights to inform our net zero strategy and support global sustainability reporting. You will enable the organization to understand sustainability performance in new ways through innovative visualization and performance tracking.
Under the direction of the Director Net Zero and working across various corporate functions, the role will support a diverse mix of initiatives led by our Corporate Sustainability team. This position is critical to upholding CBRE’s sustainability leadership position in the real estate sector and will serve an important role in advancing global sustainability reporting internally and externally. This role will ensure our GHG inventory and other sustainability performance metrics are configurable to be compliant with climate and sustainability reporting regulations globally.
This position requires an experienced data scientist who has a proven ability to efficiently manage complex data sets and turn information into insights. Acute attention to detail, ability to manage large data sets, and confidence utilizing technology platforms is critical to success.
What You’ll Do :
Manage data across three focus area: greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, net zero programs and environmental, social and governance (ESG) voluntary and regulatory reporting.
Support development of CBRE’s GHG inventory by: facilitating an efficient data collection and compilation process across; leveraging technology to analyze large data sets and perform data quality reviews to identify and correct outliers and gaps; and identifying opportunities to improve upon existing data models
Become a subject-matter expert in using the Company’s enterprise GHG emissions reporting technology platform.
Enhancing process to calculate and report service-based GHG emissions allocation to our clients.
Develop internal GHG emissions and sustainability data dashboards to inform decision-making and track progress toward the Company’s net zero goal.
Support data compilation and analysis for other corporate sustainability programs, such as office sustainability certifications, renewable energy procurement, fleet electrification, and office operations sustainability scorecard.
Collaborate with Director Sustainability Reporting and Corporate Communications Sustainability to improve data management and reporting processes for CBRE’s annual Corporate Responsibility Report, sustainability ratings and rankings, and regulatory filings. Enhance data visualization and explore opportunities to leverage AI to interpret data and streamline reporting processes.
Support auditable processes to compile information and insight from business segment and functional leaders to complete annual climate change risk and opportunity assessment, scenario analysis and double materiality assessment. Develop and maintain reports and dashboards to share insights and support regulatory reporting.
Provide program management support for the Corporate Sustainability team, maintaining project delivery plans and program dashboards to track progress of key initiatives.
Work within broad guidelines and policies.
Explain difficult or sensitive information.
Perform all responsibilities in a fast paced, constantly evolving environment.
What You’ll Need:
Bachelor's Degree preferred with 5-8 years of relevant experience. A combination of experience and education will be considered in lieu of a degree. Data Scientist Certification, preferred.
Passion for delivering data insights to advance sustainability performance
Ability to analyze complex data sets and turn information into insights
Willingness to establish and maintain data risk management controls
establishing repeatable processes, workflows, and standard operating procedures
Direct experience developing data visualization and reports using Power BI and/or Tableau
Drive to identify opportunities, learn and master new technologies and drive solution
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset.
Understanding of buildings and real estate sector
Advanced Smartsheet user
Manipulating data and drawing insights from large datasets using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL)
Working knowledge of GHG emissions reporting fundamentals and experience with GHG accounting software
Familiarity with sustainability reporting standards and frameworks

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for this position is $90,000 annually and the maximum salary for the position is $100,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program.
