Universal Engineering Sciences Staff Professional in Charlotte, North Carolina
Position Summary:
Your role as a Staff Professional will put you at the forefront of projects that are transforming communities. You will be responsible for project management assistance and oversight of assigned projects for the Construction Materials Testing Department. With various projects, you will gain the knowledge and experience necessary to take your skills to the next level.
Job Responsibilities:
Travel safely to various job sites in a company provided vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, inside/outside upkeep and complete monthly vehicle inspection reports)
Complete proof roll observations and undercut evaluation and quantifications
Staff field work
Provide on-site project management assistance to complete field-testing activities
Must visit 3-4 active job sites per day, weather permitting
Assist with developing and managing projects with clients
Complete accurate and detailed daily field-testing reports and/or supporting documentation to clients and supervisors
Maintain daily communication with technicians, contractors and other project managers
Communicate verbally and electronically with various field personnel and colleagues
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record
High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology or acceptable related degree
Preferred: 1-3 years CMT or Geotechnical experience
Preferred: Engineering Intern license (EI)
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret construction documents and perform general civil engineering calculations
Ability to accurately complete field-testing paperwork and detailed figures
Knowledge of construction materials testing methods, ASTM standards, and soil classifications
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memos
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to use technology/computer
Keen eye for detail and ability to multi-task
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Days and hours for this position are typically Monday-Friday with holiday, weekend and overtime as needed
Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments
Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing, sitting and potentially repetitive motions
Typically, this position involves 85% field work and 15% office work depending on projects and needs
You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day, primarily within the Mid-Atlantic region (NC, SC, VA)
Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)
Ability to regularly lift and/or move/shake up to 40lbs. (soil and/or concrete tests and related apparatus); frequently lift and/or move up to 60lbs. (soil and sand samples, and nuclear density equipment); and occasionally move more than 100lbs. (such as a loaded wheelbarrow of concrete samples)
