The Enterprise Database Management organization is seeking a results-oriented, committed, and self-motivated individual contributor with exceptional technical Oracle Database skills on Linux and Exadata servers for both on-prem and cloud solutions. The team is responsible for analyzing, developing, and maintaining complex OLTP Oracle 19c backend databases in support of the various business applications for The Hartford. Database Server on premise and AWS cloud skills are a must with Oracle and PostgreSQL. The basic automation skills, such as Ansible, Python, terraform for IAC are required. In this role, this individual will partner with the Application team to create and maintain database designs for business and enterprise projects in accordance with The Hartford’s best practices and published standards. This individual will collaborate with the Cloud organization to facilitate database migration from the on-prem system to the Cloud.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office should maintain their current work arrangement with the expectation of coming into the office as business needs arise.

Major Responsibilities

  • Drive design, creation, and management of large, complex Oracle databases running on Oracle 19c environments on Exadata, LINUX, AIX with features for data compression, partitioning, RAC, RMAN, Data Guard

  • Drive design, creation, and management of large, complex Oracle databases running on Oracle 19c environments on Aurora Postgres, Oracle RDS and Oracle EC2

  • Participate in design, development, and implementation of database architecture and database solutions for “Speed-to-Market” Agile projects underway.

  • Perform advanced tuning with expertise on Oracle performance analysis tools such as ASH and AWR along with SQL Plan Baselines, SQL Profiles

  • Master the latest DB features and apply them to provide a measurable value on applications.

  • Perform analysis and end-to-end execution from roadmap to implementation of database consolidations, migrations, conversions, and upgrades.

  • Work to reduce complexity and cost in database environments through analysis, simplification, and automation using Ansible, Python, terraform.

  • Manage and maintain Exadata environments with expert knowledge of Oracle Exadata architecture including Database Machines, Storage Cells, networking, and database functionality specific to Exadata.

  • Conduct Oracle database configuration reviews, audits, and troubleshooting on version 19c for all platforms supported by Oracle.

  • Proficient in Data Modeling including physical and logical data modeling.

  • Control and monitor user access to databases and maintain database security.

  • Manage capacity planning and forecasting for various platforms.

  • Facilitate databases migration from an on-prem system to the Cloud.

  • Maintain documentation of systems and standard operating policies and procedures

  • Collaborate and participate in application release planning and implementation.

  • Provide technical assistance and mentor junior members of the team.

  • Work with HIG onshore and offshore database partners to ensure availability, performance, quality, and Service Level Agreement specifications.

  • Educate and influence stakeholders to promote an understanding of the environments, increase simplification, risk management, and promote reuse and innovation.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline

  • Requires at least 8 plus years of experience with implementations, upgrades, conversions, and consolidation projects with Oracle databases.

  • Solid knowledge of Oracle 19c and technical database concepts, including logical relational data modeling, physical data modeling, tuning large instances, resource management, data replication and backup/recovery techniques

  • Automation skills, such as Ansible, Python, terraform for IAC.

  • Knowledge and experience of AWS or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Cloud Service

  • Hands-on cloud migration experience is preferred.

  • Postgres Database administration is preferred.

  • Requires strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.

  • Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship .

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$104,160 - $156,240
