Duke Energy Senior Systems Analyst - GIS in Charlotte, North Carolina

Candidate can be located anywhere within Duke Energy service territory.

Under limited direction, the Sr System Analyst-GIS is responsible for performing spatial analysis for assigned Business Units. This role is responsible for requirements gathering and developing recommendations. The position is also responsible for documenting and maintaining the policies and procedures in the use of GIS and related applications. The role will require technical leadership including the facilitating of code promotions and assisting in setting strategic direction. The role is also charged with mentoring and assisting GIS Systems Analysts.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, document, and gather requirements by communicating effectively with assigned lines of business on GIS projects and translate into recommendations and solutions. Solutions could include, but are not limited to, sophisticated maps, reports, and related GIS products and services as needed.

  • Lead department staff in analyzing, testing, and resolving production problems.

  • Provide spatial analysis using complex data from records, CAD drawings, GPS, county landbase maps, demographic models, economic resources, and other source documents into GIS and/or related databases.

  • Mentor and assist GIS Systems Analysts.

  • Work closely with Manager and Lead Business and Tech Consultant to set technical strategic direction.

  • Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures that ensure the accuracy data within GIS and related systems is maintained.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Communications or other related degree

  • In addition to required degree, minimum three (3) years relevant experience

  • Thorough understanding of ESRI Software Suite

Minimum Qualifications

  • Business and technical understanding of the applications.

  • Ability to interact well with both business and technical staff.

  • Extensive knowledge of the following:

  • Principles and practices of GIS, GPS spatial analysis, imagery interpretation, and cartography

  • CAD software and file structures, as they relate to GIS applications

  • Relational databases and SQL

  • Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

  • Work Management software (i.e. JIRA)

  • Python Programming

  • Ability to effectively research published journals, trade magazines, texts, web pages and other sources to keep current with developments in GIS, GPS, and Asset Management.

  • Ability to conduct effective oral and written presentations within the company and to other GIS and utility industry professionals.

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work well on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Self-starter and ability to operate in ambiguous situations.

  • Power BI Development

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Geography, Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field.

  • Familiarity with integration technologies such as WebMethods.

  • Web services (REST and SOAP)

  • Power BI Development

  • ESRI Ops Dashboard

  • AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, and Safe Software’s FME

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.

  • Sedentary work exerting negligible amount of force frequently or constantly and/or up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, involves sitting most of the time at a computer, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

  • Able to be flexible and work additional hours as needed.

  • May require occasional overnight travel and infrequent work on evening or weekends.
