OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the daily management of accounting functions and operations ensuring the financial system is accurate, efficient and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. This position is responsible for supervising the Accounting Department functions, preparing financial reports, developing, and implementing standard processes for proper financial management.

The Senior Accountant assists the Chief Financial Officer with respect to providing accounting support to major financial accounting areas, including but not limited to financial reports, budget maintenance, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and day to day operations.

HOURS

40 hours (Monday-Friday: 8am-5pm with some weekend hours as needed.)

ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand and follow protocols and guidelines as they pertain to bookkeeping and accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including but not limited to manage QuickBooks Online, accounts payable and accounts receivable; reconcile bank statements; support ongoing and year-end reporting and compliance activities related to Grants and Donors; support monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual financial statements
  • Assist in the preparation of 990 form for the IRS
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of the organizations grants management system to extract information and prepare reports for grantors.
  • Assist in preparing and tracking annual budgets
  • Assist in preparing financial reports, dashboards of key metrics and cash flow analysis/projections
  • Manage monthly analysis of all accounts/categories and monthly PandL analysis
  • Maintain accurate filing systems, including confidential staff files; maintain and update insurance and other vendor information, develop and maintain regular reports via the companys accounting system.
  • Other duties, as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field preferred but not required
  • Experience with full accounting cycle, including month and year end close, bank reconciliation, and accounts payable/receivable in a nonprofit grant making organization
  • At least Five years experience in general ledger, auditing, budgeting, and financial reporting
  • Knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures that is reflective of the financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other computer software programs.
  • Strong communications and written skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information discreetly
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and culturally diverse environment and to meet deadlines and multitask

REVIEW PROCESS

  • Every new hire will be under a 90-day probationary period
  • New hires will receive a 30- and 60-day verbal "review" to assess their performance and a 90-day written assessment/review
  • On an ongoing basis, all employees will have a monthly "touch base" with their direct supervisor to set goals and review performance
  • An annual review will be conducted for every employee by their direct supervisor
  • This review will assess each employee on their job performance as well as our values and will determine raises

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
