Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of this position is to deliver holistic, student-centered advising in the Honors College connecting honors students to each other through experiential learning opportunities within, across, and outside of the University. The Honors Advisor plays a critical role in programming community-building activities across the 30 honors programs at the University, managing community engagement opportunities for University Honors Program students ( UHP ), advising UHP networking groups, connecting UHP students to study abroad, undergraduate research, and internship offices on campus, providing program support for three campus chapters of honors societies, and teaching six to eight credit hours per academic year in the Honors College.
As a contributing member of the Honors College team, advise honors students about co-curricular requirements for the University Honors Program ( UHP ), provide administration for three local chapters of national honors societies, create and maintain community service opportunities for honors students, and teach one to two courses per semester in the Honors College.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Master’s degree required
Experience teaching and/or advising academically motivated students and/or honors students
Experience working with various populations and demonstrated commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for all students, staff, and faculty
Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills
Commitment to constant learning and improvement
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience working successfully in a team
High competency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Suite
Excellent record-keeping skills
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Experience working in a higher education setting
Experience with community service, study abroad, internships, and/or honors co-curricular programming
Experience using online student records systems (e.g., CONNECT , BANNER ) to review records for academic progress
