SMBC High Yield Sales & Trading - Senior Desk Analyst / Sector Strategist - Executive Director in Charlotte, North Carolina

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $275,000.00 and $275,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC Nikko Securities is seeking an experienced Director / Executive Director to join its High Yield Sales & Trading Team. The sector strategist role requires solid industry knowledge, deep institutional investor relationships, attention to detail, critical thinking, elite credit and investment skills, and a team player mentality.

The position will sit in our Charlotte, NC or New York, New York office, with a preference for Charlotte, NC.

Role Objectives: Delivery

  • Coverage of multiple industry sectors within the high-yield index. Energy and telecom sector expertise is preferred.

  • Deliver profitable idea generation to traders on a timely basis.

  • Foster investment banking opportunities with client relationships and idea generation with capital markets and coverage teams.

  • Minimize trading desk risk with forward-looking models and convicted trading opinions.

  • Expand client relationships on both the institutional investor side and corporate issuers.

  • Comfortable with monthly client travel and having a weekly published sector view/product to drive client engagement.

  • Recruit, develop, and mentor junior talent.

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the platform.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong credit skills and industry sector knowledge.

  • 10+ years of investment research experience.

  • Fully licensed with Series 7, 63, and SIE.

  • Deep institutional investor relationships in high yield or leveraged loan universe.

  • Proven ability to generate profitable trade ideas while managing downside risk.

  • Robust written and verbal communication and modeling skill set.

  • Team player with an entrepreneurial spirit.
