Job Summary:
Reports to: Vice President Culinary Services
Salary: $140,000-$160,000
Position: Remote Based with up to 10% Travel.

We are seeking a dynamic, forward thinking, and solutions-oriented leader to lead, manage and inspire a skilled team of purchasing specialists. There is a high level of engagement with senior leadership in this individual must be strategic, relatable, and deliver top and exceptional results.
Working as the Director of Purchasing for Chartwells K12, you will be responsible for executing and maintaining compliant purchasing processes and procedures through strong leadership and effective management. The ideal candidate will develop and implement strategic purchasing initiatives, as well as provide operational support to over seven hundred school districts spanning thirty-six states. The successful individual will also assist with the development of short and long-term financial plans in support of the overall objectives of the company, monitor and maintain performance, product, and service quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct oversight and full responsibility for K12 purchasing department
Ability to manage a team of five direct reports including four divisional Purchasing Managers, and a USDA Commodity Manager
Collaborates and communicates effectively with other key stakeholder groups including: Operations, Marketing, Culinary, Nutrition, Finance, and Supply Chain to achieve business outcomes
Builds and fosters both "New and Existing" relationships with K12 Manufacturing partner
Actively seeks out new and innovative products that provide a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Presents opportunities to Culinary, Nutrition and Supply Chain teams for review
Ability to build and maintain "Sector Specific Approved Product List" ensuring compliance across 50 plus broadline distribution centers
Develops and maintains "Managed Order Guides" for sector. Monitors order guides for product compliance, communicates opportunities, and implements change
Participates in large scale SKU rationalization and sourcing events. Actively identifies best quality and value add products needed for K12
Reviews all non-contracted exceptions with regional leadership, identifies opportunities to move to contracted alternatives
Develops annual USDA commodity diversion strategy, implements training plan, and quantifies output and results
Ensures regulatory purchasing compliance in accordance with USDA guidelines through continuous review of current regulations
Analyzes monthly purchasing reporting, identify trends and opportunities, presents findings to Senior leadership with potential financial impact
Monitors and conveys known supplier issues and effectively manages resolution
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, foodservice, supply chain or equivalent job experience
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience, contract food service is preferred
Proficiency with MS Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Ability to develop and present information to a diverse group of business customers
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Ability to present compelling presentations to stakeholders
Strong interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and analytical skills
