GDIT is seeking a Cloud Automation/DevOps Engineer to support cloud migration projects for the National Institute of Health (NIH) National Library of Medicine (NLM). You will work with a team of architects and Subject Matter Experts to automate, migrate and implement secure cloud solutions using AWS.

You should have experience with AWS technologies, application, server, network security, and hands-on automation experience. You should be a highly motivated professional and self-starter, who embraces the DevOps culture, and can deliver with minimal guidance.

You will identify, evaluate and recommend the best approaches to solve the business and customer problems. You will interface directly with the customers and internal stakeholders to gather requirements, deliver solutions and identify opportunities for improvement in future phases of the project. This role ensures successful application and database migration into the cloud in a timely, efficient and quality manner.

In this role a typical day will include:

  • Migrating customer applications and data onto cloud instances.

  • Troubleshooting technical issues with customer applications teams.

  • Managing cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code.

  • Working across teams and external customer groups to develop strategy, design solutions, and advise implementation teams during deployment.

  • Building and maintaining technical relationships with others in the organization and technology providers by participating in cloud technology discussions and aligning solutions with client needs.

  • Communicating with managers, team members, stakeholders, and clients to keep them informed of relevant trends and projects.

  • Researching new or alternative technologies, documenting findings, conducting MVP, making recommendations, and developing business cases to justify the investment.

  • Making assessments, recommendations and providing migration solutions to the customer

  • Mentoring and training peers, ensuring they are up-to-speed on critical processes and technologies related to the organizations’ goals and obtaining additional skills needed to succeed.

  • Adhering to project timelines and milestones.

  • Writing functional requirements/specifications documents.

  • Guiding the selection, implementation and deployment processes for future cloud rollouts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline and 8 years experience

  • Minimum of three years AWS experience, including developing, testing, integrating ,deploying and migrating mission-critical applications and services to AWS Cloud leveraging AWS native IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and IaC services;

  • Minimum of three years’ experience working within a DevSecOps/DevOps environment, utilizing AWS services, solutions, and provisioning/automating AWS infrastructure, services and tools.

  • Experience developing, testing, migrating, provisioning and deploying VPC, EC2/VMs instances, ALBs, middle-tier services, databases, App Services, networking and Infrastructure using AWS CloudFormation Templates, CloudFormation stacksets and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Hands-on experience and/or familiarity with tools, such as Bitbucket, Git, Checkmarx, Bamboo, Artifactory, SonarQube, Ansible, JIRA, confluence

  • Experience in designing and developing DevOps pipeline/automation scripts to support continuous integration & continuous delivery (CI/CD) using Agile processes

  • Experience configuring and integrating applications/systems at Application layer, Middle layer, Data layer, Network layer, Cloud etc.

  • Experience using Python and Linux Shell Scripting

  • Experience working with senior level stakeholders and development teams

  • Experience developing documentation

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience developing, testing, debugging and integrating applications using Tomcat, Apache, Nginx, Java, Java Script, Python, JSON etc.;

  • Experience developing, testing and integrating APIs / Interfaces using Java, Java Script, JSON, XML, YAML etc.;

  • Experience using traditional SQL databases, including experience developing SQL (DDL, DML) queries;

  • Experience with containers/Docker/Kubernetes (and/or EKS)

  • AWS Certifications – Solutions Architect Associate/Professional and/or Developer Associate
