Meta Director, Public Policy, Northeast US in Charleston, West Virginia


As a leader on the State Policy team, you will work closely with the regional & functional policy teams, as well as the communications & legal teams on priority policy issues. These issues include: free expression, innovation, data privacy and security, online safety, and data center issues. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to help execute strategies on both reactive and forward-looking policies related to those and other issues as they arise. You will also coordinate strategic outreach to State-level policymakers, stakeholders, and industry. You will lead a team responsible for Meta’s State policy outreach in 16 states in the Northeastern U.S.The ideal candidate is a public policy expert with strong State policy and management experience who is passionate about Meta, understands its policies and business priorities, is intellectually curious, and able to function in a fast-paced environment where there are often shifting priorities. Highly motivated and a natural self-starter, this person will also have the opportunity to create new processes, manage information in a visually appealing and easy-to-understand way, and help drive results across a team of dynamic communicators and policy professionals, understanding different perspectives and working to identify the best path forward.

Required Skills:

Director, Public Policy, Northeast US Responsibilities:

  1. Work directly with state policymakers to promote the safe and efficient use of internet technologies and economic development in the region.

  2. Monitor the political environment and identify opportunities to advance state policies that benefit the company, the state, and our local communities where we reside.

  3. Work closely with industry groups, nonprofits and legislative organizations to promote company objectives for economic development and a safe, secure, and open internet.

  4. Manage relationships with state policymakers.

  5. Ensure that Meta cross-functional partners and internal stakeholders receive timely updates on developments.

  6. Develop strategies for engagement with chambers of commerce, industry associations, non-profits, and civil society groups to advance priorities in region.

  7. Manage 2 Meta State Policy personnel in broader region while also individually responsible for 5-7 states.

  8. Willingness to travel (primarily in-region) up to 60% of the time based on need.

  9. Advise Meta teams on public policy matters to guide development of products, services and policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree

  2. 10+ years of experience in state public policy, advocacy, or government affairs

  3. Experience with the political process, policymakers, and stakeholders in region and proven relationships in region

  4. Proven familiarity with the technology and economic development policy and advocacy landscape in region Experience leading cross-functional teams

  5. Experience as a manager (2+ reports) and budget manager

  6. Demonstrated experience creating and implement advocacy campaigns directly relevant to state government, including achieving short and long term milestones related to advancing policy, political and/or advocacy goals

  7. Creative problem-solving, negotiation, and multi-tasking skills in time-sensitive settings

  8. Experience communicating nuanced concepts to a wide array of audiences

  3. Previous state policy experience in tech or tech-adjacent industry

Public Compensation:

$228,000/year to $291,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
