Koniag Government Services is hiring a Payroll Tax Specialist . This is a Hybrid opportunity with 1-2 days per week in our Chantilly, VA office.

The Payroll Tax Specialist will be responsible for the following:

  • Registering new states and following up on the registration, sending new state tax info to our corporate office in AK– 30%

  • Auditing tax set up in payroll and auditing payments and filings to the agencies, etc. – 30%

  • Monitoring tax notices - includes sending to our payroll tax provider as well as following up on the state tax website - 25%

  • Filing and paying taxes that are not covered by our PR Tax provider – 10%

  • Annual tax audit including WC reporting and W2 audit – 5%

The specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Registering new states for 17 (subject to increase) different entities.

  • Filing and paying some taxes that are not covered by our payroll provider.

  • Ensuring accuracy of payroll reports as they pertain to taxes.

  • Compiling statistical reports for workers compensation and for quarterly and annual filings.

  • Reviewing and auditing various tax statements provided by our payroll tax provider.

  • Reconciling tax accounts and verifying that our payroll tax provider is filing and paying taxes and responding to tax notices timely.

  • Responding to the Accounting Department’s reconciling issues as they pertain to payroll taxes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Local candidate preferred

  • This is for a more Career/Senior level candidate with 5-7 years of proven payroll tax experience.

Working Environment & Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress.

The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
