CITY OF CHAMPLIN Utilities Public Service Worker in Champlin, Minnesota

POSITION SUMMARY The Utilities Public Service Worker is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plants, water distribution system, sanitary sewer collections system, and municipal streetlights. The position performs a variety of skilled technical duties and mechanical labor to ensure the operational integrity and performance of all utility infrastructure, facilities, systems, and processes. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform inspections, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution system, and related infrastructure. Perform inspections, maintenance and repair of the sanitary sewer collection system, lift stations, and related infrastructure. Perform inspections, maintenance and limited repair of municipal street light system. Perform inspections, maintenance and repair of the water treatment plants, wells, towers, process equipment, mechanical and electrical components, and control devices. Perform installations, maintenance, monitoring, and repair of water meters and AMI infrastructure. Complete daily plant inspections, perform analytical tests, and evaluate recorded SCADA data. Use asset management program (Cartegraph) to track and manage assignments, records and reports. Perform GSOC underground utility locates for all municipal infrastructure. Operate Public Works and Utility vehicles and equipment in the performance of job duties (no snowplowing events). Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled hours and afterhours (OT) when necessary. Maintain a 24 hour on-call status in a rotating basis (one week each month) with other Utility employees. Perform emergency operations and repairs to Utility infrastructure, manage generator connections during power outages, and respond to reported and dispatched problems. Manage projects and repairs as directed and perform other duties assigned. KNOWELDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to process information and react appropriately in emergency situations. Ability to diagnose utility system issues and act accordingly to systematically repair problems. Ability to read and interpret maps and as-builts, navigate GIS/ESRI and asset management programs. Ability to provide services in accordance to government standards and City policies. Knowledge of practices, standards, methods, and materials used in the Utility operations. Ability to work as part of a team and maintain good working relationships with all City employees, vendors/contractors, and the general public. Knowledge of safe handling procedures of water treatment chemicals, in accordance with City safety manual, SDS and OSHA requirements. Ability to operate power equipment and hand tools involved in maintenance, repair, and construction activities. Ability to understand and follow oral and written communications, read and comprehend written instructions from O&M manuals, procedures, and safety documents. Strong sense of initiative and integrity; ability to work independently and provide self-direction to plan and perform duties with minimal supervision.
