Nexstar Media Group Assistant I, Production in Champaign, Illinois
The Production Assistant is responsible for various television production duties required for live and recorded broadcasts. The production crew works together running cameras, audio, graphics, teleprompter, and switcher to produce a professional and quality on-air product under the leadership of a director. The department must work closely with news, sports, weather, and lifestyle talent and producers to ensure smooth preparation and execution of a clean broadcast.
Operates studio and remote cameras for live and recorded programs
Composes and frames camera shots, applying the technical aspects of light, lenses, and camera settings to achieve the effects sought by directors
Adjusts positions and controls of cameras to change focus, exposure, and lighting as requested by the director
Confers with directors, producers, talent and other crew members to discuss sequences, desired effects, camera movements, and lighting requirements
Prepare cameras, set pieces, microphones, and related equipment prior to broadcast
Tests, cleans, and maintains studio and control room equipment
Operates audio board for live and recorded programs
Produces graphics for live and recorded programs
Operates graphics and video playback systems for live and recorded programs
Edits video and preforms other post-production tasks for promos and recorded programs
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Proficiency with computers, telephones, cameras, and other studio/control room equipment
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to lift and move set pieces and equipment up to 40 lbs
Ability to communicate effectively over headsets for extended periods
