About the Role
The Role
We are seeking to recruit a Research Associate (RA) to join our Industrial team within the Investment Research Group, based in Hong Kong. The RA will focus on researching companies relates to batteries, building materials, and Chinese heavy machinery under the Industrial sector in the APAC region, aiming to generate differentiated insights by asking innovative questions, anticipating trends, and identifying risks and potential disruptions in this rapidly evolving industry. The ideal candidate should be able to communicate and implement these ideas with a highly analytical and detailed approach. This individual will work closely with the experienced Global Industry Analyst in Hong Kong, as well as with Investment Boutique Portfolio Managers and other Global Industry Analysts in the Global Industrial team. Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position will include the following:
Performing continuous due diligence and stay abreast on relevant companies under Industrial sector in APAC
Creating and maintaining detailed financial models to aid in analyzing existing and prospective investments
Attending company meetings, investment industry conferences, and conferences specific to area of coverage
Completing complex analytical projects under tight time constraints
Maintaining the integrity of industry and comparative valuation models
Contributing to written research and investment discussions in various internal forums
Making investment recommendations to global investment teams
Working to identify emerging research trends and novel and investable developments
Essential Skills
We are seeking a self-motivated, diligent team player with a passion for the Industrial sector and investing in APAC markets. This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, excellent financial modeling abilities, and a desire to apply their expertise to support Wellington’s Global Industry Research Team. The successful candidate will thrive in a highly collaborative investment environment and build strong, trusting relationships with colleagues across global teams. Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to contribute to an open investment dialogue are essential. A growth mindset, characterized by flexibility and a willingness to continue learning, evolving, and growing as a Research Associate, is crucial. The RA will bring a global perspective and a creative approach to analyzing investment opportunities in the region.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
An undergraduate degree with a strong academic record
At least 4 years of relevant corporate finance /investment experience within the Industrial sector. Experience in covering Asia batteries, building materials, and Chinese heavy machinery will be highly preferrable.
Strong financial modeling skills
Sound judgment, strong work ethic and highest personal and professional integrity
Be disciplined with a strong bottom-up fundamental approach to research
Demonstrated analytical ability
Self-awareness and resilience to be comfortable when wrong
Ability building relationships and collaborating with experienced, cross-functional investment teams
Ability to work independently where needed and make decisions in the face of uncertainty
Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize time well
Strong attention to detail
Strong communication skills and desire and appetite for continuous learning
CFA or progress towards completion of the CFA
Fluency in English required, Fluency in Mandarin would be advantageous
