General Atomics and Affiliated Companies Space Systems Assembly & Integration Manager in Centennial, Colorado

GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, laser and weapons systems, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation as well as a range of commercial customers.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Assembly & Integration Manager in our EMS Space Systems Manufacturing and Advanced Projects group. This position reports to a manager and is responsible for managing the development and implementation of activities for Space Systems manufacturing operations to meet production safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives. This individual will lead a team of experienced professional staff providing direction to manufacturing engineers, production planners, and manufacturing technicians.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate with technical staff and management across departments to develop and implement current, annual, and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business, and financial objectives for manufacturing operations.

  • Coordinate the planning, scheduling, and activities of manufacturing operations for Space Systems Division programs to achieve business, safety, quality, and financial objectives.

  • Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement and implement lean principles. Provide guidance on the design of mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE), tooling, and fixturing. Implement ongoing process and facilities operations development, including training of technicians and certification of production facilities.

  • Monitor all operations for regulatory and safety compliance. Approve finalized lift plans, packaging, handling, and transport procedure during the assembly, test, and integration (AI&T) build phase. Approve manufacturing work instructions, routers, and technical or programmatic documentation related to space vehicle assembly and integration.

  • Ensure machinery, equipment, and tools are well maintained.

  • Identify manufacturing issues and provide leadership in developing solutions.

  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements that best utilize the facilities equipment and manufacturing techniques . Work with systems, design, and test engineers to enhance manufacturability, assembly, and integration of space systems components and subassemblies.

  • Provide technical communication to Company management and represent the Space Systems Manufacturing team as the primary technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies for Assembly & Integration activities.

  • Provide manufacturing expertise to the development of new and expansion of existing business opportunities to enhance the capabilities of the organization.

  • Present reports at engineering meetings, weekly meetings with senior leadership, and/or quarterly program reviews.

  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

  • Understand all applicable processes and procedures, and provide continual input to improve and streamline those processes. Maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures, workmanship standards, and best practices.

  • Travel up to 25% as needed to support manufacturing operations in multiple locations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering or a related discipline and nine or more years of progressively complex manufacturing experience with at least three of those years managing manufacturing operations. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Must have a detailed and comprehensive understanding of the principles, concepts, theories, and practices of manufacturing operations, with extensive experience demonstrating a broad application of operations practices, techniques, and standards.

  • Multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge in mechanical, electrical, electronic, fluid, cryogenic, and optical systems is desired, with specific experience in assembly and integration of space vehicles in a cleanroom.

  • Must have comprehensive project management and leadership skills, including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.

  • Must possess the ability to resolve unusually complex management and technical problems.

  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.

  • Customer focused, must be ablet to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment and able to work extended hours as required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required. Existing security clearance preferred.
