NBC Universal Operations Supervisor in Centennial, Colorado

Technical Operations is a technical organization within NBCUniversal providing technical and operational services across the complete NBCUniversal content management, fulfillment and distribution ecosystem. We ensure that each of our networks, shows and films are reliably delivered to every screen around the world 24/7/365. We manage a best-in-class operation, leading the industry with our scalable, reliable, geo-diverse operation. 

Technical Operations’ team in Centennial, CO manages playout and monitoring for NBCUniversal’s broadcast Networks and Owned Television Stations, originates and monitors TV Everywhere streams for a diverse portfolio of cable and broadcast properties, and provides comprehensive disaster recovery services for all NBCU cable networks. The Operations Supervisors for Local Operations are true subject matter experts in this dynamic broadcast environment. Operations Supervisors drive 99.999% on-air reliability for all channel streams and work as a team using their leadership and skill under pressure to get compelling content to your screens. 

Job Duties

  • Manage daily operations and drive reliability within the Local Distribution Operation, supporting 60+ streams of the owned and operated stations and subchannels in a fast-paced, multichannel on-air operations environment and maintain 99.999% on-air availability and reliability for all channel origination

  • Lead and support on-going training for a team of Master Control Operators; provide clear direction and guidance for the execution of all master control functions including commercial integration, manipulations and edits to the on-air playlists, and live event execution.

  • Create new SOPs and operational guidelines and train others in these SOPs, issue resolution, and recovery as needed.

  • Researching and documentation of on-air or potential on-air discrepancies- providing detailed write-ups of occurrences resulting in potential outages

  • Facilitate day-of-air changes across multiple departments including Sales, Traffic, Programming, Promotions, and News Operations

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to local (owned and operated) station partners with an unwavering desire to fulfill customers’ needs.

  • Develop a deep knowledge of the operation’s technical architecture and on-air systems.

  • Resolve issues quickly and effectively to prevent on-air discrepancies- De-escalating issues cross functionally (production, local station teams, traffic, engineers, etc.) in real-time.

  • Manage the end-to-end execution of all live events (Today Show, Saturday Night Live, NFL, Olympics, Debates) including preparation, in-event execution, and off-air adjustments.

  • Actively participate in the operation’s change control procedures by approving and maintaining awareness of all on-air maintenances and by managing critical components of maintenance operating procedures.

  • Perform live event transmission tasks including booking feeds and faxing in incoming signals.

  • BA/BS in a related field or equivalent work experience

  • 2+ years of experience in a broadcast operations environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in a leadership role in a fast-paced environment requiring troubleshooting and processing skills, plus an ability to effectively lead, prioritize and adapt to changing scenarios

  • Thorough understanding of television production, broadcast operations, and/or news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements

  • Technological curiosity and an improvement-oriented approach

  • Unwavering composure in high-pressure situations

  • A track record of meeting or exceeding performance expectations

  • Fluency in Spanish

  • Acute attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Additional Requirements:

  • Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

  • Must be willing to work in Centennial, CO.

  • Must be willing and available to work flexible hours, including overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays in order to meet the needs of a 24x7 operation (This position is currently scheduled as an overnight position 9:00 pm-7:00 am MT, 4x a week)
