This Sr. Principal Systems Engineering position is in the Display Products department which is part of the Avionics business unit of Collins Aerospace. Display Products is a Center of Excellence for avionics display solutions across Collins Aerospace. This position involves architecting, development and certification of display unit hardware and software for commercial and military primary flight and mission-critical display products.

We are seeking a highly motivated engineer that is ready to join our Systems Engineering team to aid in development of display solutions for our wide customer base. The candidate will work with customers in both commercial and military markets. This position provides the opportunity to architect our display solutions and build a broad professional network across the Avionics and Mission Systems business units. The candidate will interface with many areas and resources outside the Display Products department including external customers, Program Management, Production Operations, Environmental Effects Engineering (EEE), and Technical Publications.

Excellent written and oral communication skills are critical to this position. Flexibility to adapt to expectations and processes of our various customers is required.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform as an architect to select and develop the right display solutions for on-going pursuits. This includes developing design approaches for display hardware and software.

  • Develop product line roadmaps and influence new technology development targeting new products

  • Develop innovative design approaches that meet customer requirements, cost targets, and product line objectives

  • Be the technical lead for display product development from concept to full rate production

  • Requirements capture, allocation, traceability, validation, and verification of requirements

  • Support teams of hardware, software, and systems engineers to develop, integrate and field display products

  • Lead Electromagnetic Interference and Environmental qualification testing

  • Develop certification plans, accomplishment summaries and other life-cycle data for hardware certification with the FAA

  • Be the primary technical point of contact for our customers

  • Support technical proposal preparation, compliance matrix development, and systems engineering bids

  • Cost Account Management for Systems Engineering activities

  • Some domestic and international travel is expected

Qualifications/Experience Required:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience

  • 10+ years experience with hardware and software design and development processes

  • 10+ years of relevant electrical, systems or computer engineering experience

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
