Collins Aerospace is seeking a talented & motivated individual to join the Aircraft Architectures & Systems engineering team in defining Tier 0 (Concept of Operation) and Tier 1 (Functional Architecture) requirements and design for Avionics Advanced Capabilities scope. This growing engineering team is part of the newly created Avionics Advanced Systems & Architectures (ASA) organization.

This is an onsite position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Relocation maybe available.

What YOU will do:

  • You will collect and assess market channel drivers and operational needs for simplified vehicle operations (SVO), extended minimum crew operations (eMCO), single pilot operations (SPO), and autonomous operations (AO) to identify necessary functions and features of a next-generation Avionics System.

  • You will document Concept of Operation, high level functional definition, functional requirements and functional architecture using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices.

  • You will contribute to the technology transition and maturation roadmaps for Avionics, between the Advanced Technology Sandbox teams and Channel/Program teams.

  • You will actively support rolling wave planning activities for the Aircraft Architectures & Systems Engineering activities included under the Avionics Advanced Capability scope.

  • Travel includes both domestic and international: <10%.

What YOU will learn:

  • You will gain exposure to stakeholders across all the Avionics Channels & Product Lines, including executive leadership.

  • You will gain specialized and general Systems Engineering & Architecture development skills to activate the next generation of Advanced Capabilities required to enable single pilot operations / autonomous operations.

  • You will gain experience in introducing and understanding the successful impact of new advanced capabilities into multiple Avionics Architectures across Commercial, Business & Regional, and Military Aviation Segments.

Qualifications YOU must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • 5+ years of experience as a Lead Systems Engineer, or similar role, as part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT).

  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering best practices and principles, including but not limited to NASA Systems Engineering handbook (NASA/SP-2007-6105), International Council of Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Systems Engineering Handbook, ISO/IEC 15288 (IEEE STD 15288-2008) Systems and Software Engineering Life Cycle Processes.

  • Ability to collaborate & bring various stakeholders together.

  • Self-motivated with a high sense of responsibility.

  • Comfortable working in a fluid & undefined environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in design, development, and documentation of avionics requirements in accordance with DO-297 and TSO-C153A, and software products and technologies, up to & including DO-178B DAL A.

  • Demonstrated ability to work seamlessly across organizational boundaries.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical subjects concisely at all levels of the organization.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
