Job Title : Fleet Manager - Independent Contractors

Location : Onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA (1332 Edgewood Rd SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404)

Compensation : Base Salary

Job Summary : The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a fleet of trucks. Their main task is to ensure the fleet is well-maintained, meets legal requirements, and is operated efficiently to maximize productivity and minimize costs. They are responsible for managing and developing relationships with drivers to increase overall driver satisfaction and improve driver retention. They also work closely with drivers to coordinate deliveries and ensure they arrive at their destination on time. Communication, analytical, and organizational skills are essential to succeed in this role.

Day in the Job Preview : The Fleet Manager is the master planner and helper. You'll be focused on managing schedules and loads and making sure contractor teams have the information they need to meet customer expectations. Your job is to help contractors stay organized, so they can work safely and stay on schedule.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities :

  • Track and trace all drivers daily to confirm transit is managed.

  • Resolve service issues/recoveries and communicate to planners/bookers/customers/drivers.

  • Ensure that all customer requirements are fulfilled (service, van equipment needs, trailer needs).

  • Coordinate with planners on new load plans and service issues.

  • Update trailer/equipment changes in a timely manner.

  • Provide all DOT documentation received in a timely manner.

  • Obtain all required paperwork for customer requirements.

  • Investigate and report weekly on all roadsides and accidents.

  • Understanding of billable charges for customers so that charges are added and billed to pay the driver.

Job Requirements :

  • Successful completion of a CRST background check and drug screen is required.

  • High school diploma or GED is required.

  • 1-2+ years of transportation experience (in the field currently or within the last 2-3 years) is required.

  • An understanding of the transportation fleet market is highly preferred.

  • AA or BA in a relevant field is preferred.

  • DOT regulation experience is highly preferred.

  • Previous coaching or management experience is highly preferred.

  • The ability to pivot priorities in a fast-paced environment is required.

  • Moderate technical aptitude is required.
