IRON COUNTY CARE AND SHARE Shelter Supervisor in CEDAR CITY, Utah

The Shelter Supervisor is responsible for the daily functions of the emergency shelter, ensuring high-quality client care and maintaining a safe, clean, and well-managed facility. This role includes oversight of shelter operations, including client services, meal preparation, inventory management, facility upkeep, data tracking, and reporting. The Shelter Supervisor will collaborate closely with caseworkers and Coordinated Entry to coordinate services for clients and perform additional duties as assigned. The shelter is open 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.

Line of Reporting: The Shelter Manager reports directly to the Executive Director. The Shelter Manager will be evaluated annually by the Executive Director.

Work Schedule: Primarily Monday -- Friday, 8:00 a.m. -- 4:00 p.m., with rotating shifts and emergency coverage as needed. Subject to change

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a social services field; OR an Associate's degree with two years of relevant experience; OR significant, proven experience in a related field.
  • Experience in supervision, case management, or related social services work.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective leadership and personnel supervision experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deescalate and manage difficult situations with clients.
  • Proficiency in computer use, including data entry and record-keeping systems.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and adapt to a dynamic environment.
  • Understanding of poverty and homelessness, with a commitment to equity and community-building.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently with minimal supervision.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain a valid Utah driver's license upon hire.
  • Ability to obtain a food handler's permit upon hire.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Training upon hire.

Primary Responsibilities

The Shelter Supervisor ensures compliance with ICCS policies and procedures while overseeing all aspects of shelter operations, including:

Professional Conduct: Maintaining professional boundaries with clients is required. Socializing with clients outside of professional interactions is prohibited and may result in termination. Must be able to follow and enforce ethical guidelines and procedures.

Facility & Operations Management:

  • Oversee shelter operations.
  • Respond to emergencies and urgent staff needs.
  • Maintain shelter cleanliness, grounds, and facility upkeep.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.

Client Services & Case Management:

  • Provide case management and support services to shelter residents.
  • Make appropriate referrals to agency and community resources.
  • Identify potential candidates for transitional housing, conduct initial interviews, and facilitate applications.
  • Maintain client records in UHMIS and other data systems.
  • Ensure admission processes align with ICCS policies.

Staff & Volunteer Supervision:

  • Effectively supervise the lead shelter monitors, shelter monitors, and volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Conduct training and evaluations for shelter staff.
  • Handle emergency calls after hours and on weekends as assigned.

Food & Supply Management:

  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals for clients as required.
  • Main tain kitchen cleanliness per ICCS, Department of Agriculture, and local health regulations.
  • Manage inventory, including food and essential supplies.

Data Collection & Reporting:

  • Maintain and submit required statistical reports on client services.
  • Assist with rep rting to funding sources.

The Shelter Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for clients while upholding the highest standards of service and operational excellence.

The Shelter Manager is required to:

  • Have a valid government-issued Driver's License

  • Have or be able to get a food handler's permit upon hire

  • Pass a background check
