Preschool Assistant Teacher
The preschool assistant teacher will join our existing team at the SUU Preschool. This licensed, play-based program is dedicated to fostering a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment for young children as well as providing a high-quality practicum site for SUU students. We align with state core standards as well as the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) recommendations to ensure the highest standards of early childhood education. Our program focuses on the holistic development of each child through engaging, play-based activities. The Preschool position will be for the morning session which runs 5 days a week, M-F, 8-12 for classes consisting of approximately 24 four- and five-year-olds. This part-time position involves planning and implementing lesson plans, mentoring and evaluating practicum students, and otherwise supporting the preschool team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and executing lesson plans and activities.
• Mentor and supervise practicum students, providing guidance and feedback.
• Ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment.
• Facilitate play-based learning activities that support children's developmental needs.
• Observe and assess children's progress, and communicate findings to the Lead Teacher.
• Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to meet the individual needs of each child.
• Maintain a positive and professional relationship with children, parents, and staff.
• Uphold the center's policies and procedures.
Proposed Education and Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
• Experience working with young children in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of play-based learning and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Previous experience in a preschool or early childhood education setting.
• Familiarity with NAEYC guidelines and recommendations.
