Position Overview

Shaw Industries is looking for an Estimator & Planner for our Custom Design Studio, to provide the field sales person, client, project designer, and carpet installer with the information, documents and carpet installation/Seaming plans necessary to correctly order and install hospitality and commercial carpets for a project.

Responsibilities:

  • Correctly understand and comprehend plans and create application designs for the appropriate materials, and the areas in which the materials will be installed.

  • Calculate the quantities of the materials required for the project based on the application designs.

  • Produce a neat, detailed, systematic set of carpet installation/seaming plans complete with carpet images using AutoCAD and other computer programs.

  • Identify, research, and resolve project application concerns and difficulties with the customer, project designer, and carpet installer.

  • Create manufacturing layouts for custom hospitality carpets which enable the Chromajet printer/CYP and other carpet to fit products to be manufactured in the various forms of carpet borders (with corners), carpet rugs, and carpet panels, etc…

  • Accurately total all material quantities (custom pattern carpets, carpet bases, adhesives, seam sealers etc.), and list all material information (pattern nos., pattern repeats, installation locations, etc.) in an estimating quote report which is supplied to the customer, field sales person, and Estimating Dept. records.

  • Provide the customer, field sales person, and project designer with an estimating quote report and AutoCAD carpet installation/seaming plans (in color) via facsimile and overnight courier service, and confirming proper deliveries.

  • Render AutoCAD plans, which are utilized by the Custom Design Studio, to create 2-D color computer drawings of completed projects for the customer and project designer.

  • Properly log all project information, activities, and results and file the project report and AutoCAD plans correctly for future reference and updates ensuring hard copies, as well as computer files, are all securely retained and accessible.

  • Prepare projects for distribution, including final approval by the Estimating Manager, by performing thorough, inclusive checks of projects completed by other Estimator/AutoCAD Application Designers ensuring errorless projects.

  • Coordinate any changes, additions, or developments that relate to a completed project with the customer, project designer, and field sales person by correctly revising the estimating quote report, AutoCAD carpet installation/seaming plans, manufacturing layouts, etc., and distributing the revised materials to the appropriate people.

  • Record and reserve copies of all revised information for a project keeping the project file, plans, and project computer files in chronological order.

  • Maintain and execute general service requirements associated with computer plotters and large plan copy machines.

  • Operate effectively with other departments of Custom Design Stud (Design Dept., Strike-off Dept., Production Dept., Sales, Customer and Manufacturing) generating successful project completions.

Requirements:

  • High School/GED - General knowledge of the floor covering industry.

  • Experience with floor covering installation procedures.

  • Demonstrated project estimating experience preferred

  • Demonstrated the ability to read and interpret blue prints

  • Demonstrated ability of mathematics, specifically fractions, measurements, and reading a ruler.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply geometric concepts needed to scale and measure plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both written and oral

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree and equivalent work experience
