Job Title: Welder and Fabricator
Job Description
The Welder Fabricator is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures, machines, and components using welding, cutting, and machining equipment. This role requires advanced skills in welding (MIG, TIG, and Stick) and proficiency in operating a range of metalworking machinery, including mills, lathes, saws, brake presses, shears, cutting tools, and sanding equipment. The Welder Fabricator will work from blueprints, technical drawings, or own design, ensuring accuracy and precision in all fabricated products. This position requires close attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, and adherence to strict safety protocols. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, with a proven track record in both welding and metal fabrication.
Responsibilities
Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on a variety of metals based on project specifications.
Fabricate and assemble metal components by cutting, bending, and forming parts to fit the design.
Repair and modify existing machinery or components as required.
Operate manual milling machines to mill precise components for fabrication projects.
Use lathes to turn or shape metal parts for customized fabrication projects.
Set up and run band saws, plasma cutters, and various cutting tools for metal preparation.
Operate grinding, sanding, and polishing equipment to finish metal components to desired surface quality.
Prepare metal materials (e.g., cutting, deburring, and polishing) before welding or assembly to ensure proper fit and finish.
Position and secure metal components for welding using jigs, clamps, or other positioning tools to maintain alignment during welding and assembly process.
Inspect and test completed welds and fabricated parts to ensure they meet quality standards and adhere to the design specifications.
Address defects, porosity, or improper welding techniques by making appropriate corrections during or after the welding process.
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on welding machines, mills, lathes, and other shop equipment to ensure smooth operation and prevent downtime.
Keep work areas clean and organized, following safety protocols, and always utilizing the correct personal protective equipment (PPE).
Identify potential hazards and report working conditions to the manager/supervisor to maintain a safe workplace.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a welder fabricator or in a similar role, with hands-on experience in both welding and machining.
Strong proficiency with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques.
Advanced experience operating metalworking machinery, including manual milling machines, lathes, saws, grinders, and sanders.
Familiarity with a wide range of metals, including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Knowledge of metal cutting and finishing processes, including grinding, deburring, polishing, and sanding.
Ability to perform precise measurements and work to tight tolerances.
Ability to lift and move heavy metal parts (up to 50 lbs.).
