Job Description: Provide overall management direction for heavy civil infrastructure federal contracts. Ensure that project goals are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Projects may be located in the Mid-West or Mid-Atlantic regions and include navigation locks, dams, naval base infrastructure, piers, dry docks, levees, or flood walls for USACE, NAVFAC, or other government agencies. The scope of this role may include leading a single mega project or a group of projects in a specific market segment, using varied contract procurement methodologies (Design-Bid-Build, ECI, Design-Build, MATOC, MACC, IDIQ, etc.).
This role will initially travel throughout our region, but likely will settle in the mid-Atlantic territory long term.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Schedule, plan and coordinate personnel, equipment and materials for sitework and underground work. Review line drawings from Field Engineer and implement line drawing into the field with the Foreman. Identify conflicts between underground work and eliminate them. Orientate new trades for sitework and underground crews. Lead SIPS and OHA's on designated site/UG items with the crews. Coordinate future layout needs for site/UG work Coordinate dates with responsible Engineer on long lead and major materials needed. Review aggregate, pipe and trucking usage logs from the Field Engineer. Assist Project Superintendent on cost projections for site/UG items. Ensure that all your crews have buckets of work at all times, if a conflict between crews and/or Subs arrives. Assist the Field Engineer on managing Subs. Coordinate with the Materials Field Engineer on where all materials are staged onsite. Help them develop a laydown area plan. Review any compaction issues from the Field Engineers compaction log drawing. Review the VSB sewer boxes code for accuracy. Have a log of what sewer boxes are onsite and know how long you will need them. Copy Project Superintendent on this log. Ensure Foreman and Field Engineer are keeping accurate and up to date as-builts weekly.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Possess a 4-year Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management. 10+ yearsexperience with extensive knowledge of construction, design, finance, and management as well as proven leadership in a self-performing general contractor role required. 5+ years of experience as Superintendent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be able to understand, interpret, and consistently apply safety laws, company policies/standards, and collective bargaining agreements. Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance. Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities. Must possess superior communication and interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.). Significant business acumen is required. Ability to build trust and achieve results with clients and company team members. Ability to plan strategically over the entire span of a project and foresee and mitigate obstacles to performance.
