Genetic Counselor - Carmel, NY

Full-time: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations — Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York — plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care. Non-acute care is offered through various affiliates.

Summary:

Provide genetic counseling to patients, perform risk assessment for various genetic diseases. Provide verbal and written reports to physicians.

Responsibilities:

  1. Genetic Counseling Criteria A: Take full family and medical histories and document in patient's record Genetic Counseling Criteria B: Counsel patients for specific indications as per protocols Genetic Counseling Criteria C: Follow-up as needed (interprets results of testing.

  2. Coordination of Services Criteria A: Arrange follow-up services after amniocentesis or other lab work Coordination of Services Criteria B: Record and report results to all parties Coordination of Services Criteria C: Participate in lab meetings to discuss abnormal results. Coordination of Services Criteria D: Discuss cases periodically with physician supervisor

  3. Education and Research Criteria A: Research pertinent medical information for patients and physicians; medical records, medical journals Education and Research Criteria B: Attend rounds a Norwalk Hospital or other cancer centers Education and Research Criteria C: Attend at least one conference per year Education and Research Criteria D: Assist with planning educational inservices

  4. Doctor/Patient Communication Criteria A: Draft clear, informative letters and chart notes to document in person counseling and follow-up. Doctor/Patient Communication Criteria B: Do phone consults on specific genetic risk giving to medical staff.

  5. Promotion and marketing Criteria A: Draft letters and other material up dating physicians we serve about genetic issues and new testing. Promotion and marketing Criteria B: Design brochures for physician’s offices, etc. Promotion and marketing Criteria C: Promote program to community (i.e.; health fairs, etc.)

  6. Special Projects Criteria A: Initiate and complete two projects per year to enhance our service and or patient care.

  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

  8. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position

Education, Skills and Experience

Required: M.S. in Genetic Counseling. One to two years experience preferred. Minimum Experience: zero to six months

Desired: Board Certification by the American College of Medical Genetics. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

Salary Range:

$32.6400 - $65.0148 Hourly

Working conditions:

Essential:
