How will you make an impact?

Manages the staff and operations of the Lab Services unit. Provides strategic direction for functions within Lab Services. Establishes and implements quality policy for materials, products, and production environment. Participates as a key member of the Company’s Management Team. Provides technical and operational leadership for laboratory operations and provide technical assistance to the manufacturing facilities.

  • Directs the analytical testing programs for raw materials, in-process / bulk / finished product testing, in support of finished marketed products. Includes managing analytical testing programs for all clients. Manages Stability testing program in concert with Quality Assurance oversight. Manages the Method Qualification / Verification for the analytical methods.

  • Manages all outsourced testing and qualifications.

  • Leads the method transfer activities from Analytical Development associated with New Business Developments projects.

  • Develops and provides strategic plans to help quality control meet department and business goals.

  • Assesses technical responses to questions/issues raised by regulatory agencies (e.g., FDA and USP). Serves as an advisor to both the Manufacturing / Quality Operations Division for all analytical matters.

  • Reviews sections of regulatory submissions, if applicable, and/or supplemental compendium submissions for appropriateness. Negotiates and directs analytical support for the implementation of product revisions and new product introductions including method transfers.

  • Develops and monitors the capital equipment and operating budgets and short term and long-range strategic planning for the Lab Services Department.

  • Builds and supports an injury free and incident free workspace.

  • Complies with all job-related safety and other training requirements.

  • Participates in establishing strategic plans and objectives, making final decisions on administrative or operational matters, and ensuring effective achievement of objectives.

  • Find opportunities within global network to address site needs and remove barriers to meet customer timelines, increase profitability & create center of excellence.

  • Establish leader standard work for testing materials.

  • Guides staff to achieve tactical and strategic business goals; responsible for results including costing, methods, and staffing.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science is required

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead professional staff to achieve goals, evaluate and resolve complex technical problems.

  • Ability to motivate, energize, and retain key staff by direct interactions with supervisors and staff.

  • Familiarity with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Demonstrates ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

  • Requires discretion and independent judgment.

  • Very high degree of interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the clients including tact to handle sensitive matters.

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $84,000.00–$120,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
