Mass Markets HR Officer in Cape Town, South Africa

POSITION OVERVIEW

Job Title:HR Officer

Job Type:Full-Time, Permanent

Location:Onsite - Pinelands, Cape Town

Schedule:Monday - Friday (USA Hours)

We are seeking an experienced HR Officer who will be responsible for supporting various HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance with labour laws. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HR policies and practices and be adept at handling administrative tasks and resolving employee concerns.

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate flexibility in their work schedule, including the capability and readiness to work shifts as needed, ensuring continuous HR support.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Onboarding:

  • Assist with recruitment process, screening and selection, interviews, background checks.

  • Coordinate and conduct new employee onboarding and orientation programs including arranging background screening checks with service providers.

    Employee Relations:

  • Act as a point of contact for employee enquiries and concerns.

  • Address and resolve employee grievances and disputes in a timely and professional manner.

  • Initiate, chair or support in disciplinary hearings.

    Performance Management:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of performance management systems.

  • Support managers in probation reviews, performance appraisals and employee development plans.

    Compliance & Record-Keeping:

  • Ensure compliance with South African labour laws and company policies.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and documentation.

    Compensation & Benefits:

  • Assist in administering employee benefits programs and compensation structures.

  • Conduct salary benchmarking and manage employee queries related to compensation.

    HR Administration:

  • Prepare HR reports and assist in HR projects and initiatives.

  • Handle administrative tasks related to HR operations, such as leave management and attendance tracking.

  • Coordinate with payroll departments to ensure accurate and timely payment of salaries.

  • Ensure all employee records (personal details, employment history, performance evaluations, etc.) are up-to-date and accurate.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources.

  • 3-4 years of HR experience, preferably in a similar role.

  • Strong understanding of South African labour laws and HR best practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, resilience, attention to detail, and strong organizational abilities.

  • Familiarity with HR software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Proactive and adaptable to changing work environments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be largely sedentary and will be required to sit/stand for long periods while using a computer and telephone headset. The employee will be regularly required to operate a computer and other office equipment, including a phone, copier, and printer. The employee may occasionally be required to move about the office to accomplish tasks; reach in any direction; raise or lower objects, move objects from place to place, hold onto objects, and move or exert force up to forty (40) pounds.
