Day Shift The Licensed Practical Nurse shall develop a general knowledge of the nursing process. The LPN shall demonstrate ability in the following areas: communication skills, professional growth, patient/staff/student education and clinical skills.Begin

  • Take a leadership role in all activities, going beyond traditional technical job duties to lead patients and co-workers through the journey of cancer care

  • Honor the value of the team and work in concert with others to create a personal experience for every patient

  • Recognize the individual and personal needs and aspirations of each patient and individualize interactions to honor and fulfill those needs and aspirations

  • Honor and respect the diverse nature, beliefs, values, and lifestyles of patients, families, and colleagues

  • Support each colleague who works with cancer patients to uplift our spirits, manage our stress, and celebrate our lives

  • Organize and utilize nursing process

  • Critical thinking skills

  • Patient education and advocacy

  • Supervise and provide encouragement and support to Patient Care Techs, unit techs, and other ancillary staff

  • Demonstrate an understanding of “Hospice Respite” and provide for the care of the patient

  • Understand and incorporate into care the unique needs for the Neutropenic patient

  • Provide compassionate and patient-centered care to the dying patient and family

  • Gives direct patient care according to the plan of care and individual patient needs as directed by the care plan

  • Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and wellbeing of the patient

  • Administers prescribed medications safely, including managing IV’s within scope of practice

  • Completes documentation in the electronic medical record accurately and in a timely manner

  • Provides appropriate information to assist the Registered Nurse in preparation and maintenance of an effective care plan

  • Communicates in a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, physicians, patients, ancillary departments, and visitors

  • Maintains confidentiality

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Graduated from an accredited practical nurse program

  • Preferably enrolled in an RN completion program

  • Current CPR certification

  • IV certified or must obtain IV certification within 90 days of hire

  • Experience working in an acute care environment, but not required

  • Complete basic cardiac arrhythmia course within first 90 days of employment

  • Licensed Practical Nurse licensed by the State of Missouri

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

  • Must attend scheduled Oncology specific training and competencies when requested
