General Summary
The Library Associate II (Evenings and Weekends), as a team member and under intermittent supervision, provides access (circulation, interlibrary loan, and reserves) services both in-person (service desk and office) and virtually (ticketing system, email and phone) to West Texas A&M University students, faculty, staff, and community on weekends and evenings. Leads maintenance of patron accounts, Access collections, and missing/lost procedures. Schedules and supervises between 7 – 9 student workers. May work days as needed. Reports to the Head of Access Services.
Responsibilities:
Access Services:
Provides access services both in-person (public desk and personal workspace) and virtually (phone, email, and ticketing system) to students, faculty, staff, and community users.
Refers users to colleagues and librarians for research purposes.
Assists users through the finding and circulating of library materials; answering directional questions; and maintaining, troubleshooting, and providing assistance with Access Services technology (e.g., computers, printers, copiers, etc.).
Leads maintenance of user accounts and records including contacting users with delinquent and suspended accounts, placing administrative holds, collections, processing refunds, and maintenance of associated files, reports and records.
Assists with processing Friends and TexShare paperwork.
Assists with cash handling, preparing and filing cash reports, processing Buff Gold Card deposits, and creating daily deposits.
Assists with the management of the photocopy/guest card sales and records.
Assists with the guest network Access program.
Monitors the electronic security system.
Occasionally moves library furniture and equipment.
Management:
Maintains comprehensive knowledge and assists the Head of Access Services with the development, implementation, and assessment of unit policies and procedures, including manuals and training materials.
Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates 7 – 9 student workers.
Organizes and prioritizes tasks and projects in support of unit, library, and University goals.
Troubleshoots problems in the absence of supervisor.
Responsible for library operations, security of the building and collections, and opening/closing the library.
Prepares reports for both internal and external users that analyze data.
Maintains library collections to promote access:
Leads the maintenance of the loan, reference, and youth collections.
Coordinates student worker assignments (e.g., shelving, reading, dusting, shifting, etc.) within the stacks.
May be assigned 8-9 ranges to read, dust and straighten.
Maintains charts for each student to show their progress on reading and shelving.
Maintain stats of carts shelved, loaded, and number of ranges completed each month.
Conducts regular inventories of collections.
Keeps end panel call number signs correct.
Leads missing and lost item procedures.
Notifies the Head of Access Services of library materials that need repair.
Participates in library and/or University organizations. Assumes associated duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three (3) years of experience in a public, academic, or specialized library/archive, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
One (1) year of experience providing access (circulation, reserves, or interlibrary loan) services.
Knowledge of library resources including databases.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and work collaboratively with others.
Adaptable/flexible with the ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
Strong customer service ethic.
Ability to move medium weight boxes, furniture, books, heavy book trucks or similar items.
Ability to handle materials containing dust or microscopic mold spores.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience in utilizing Alma and Primo.
Experience working nights and weekends.
Experience operating a cash register, including the processing of credit/debit transactions, and balancing cash drawers.
Knowledge of Interlibrary Loan practices, procedures, and technologies.
Familiarity with US Copyright Law as it relates to libraries.
