REPORTS TO:Desktop Support Manager

RATE OF PAY:$19.03 per hour - $21.90 per hour

WORK SCHEDULE:Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Primarily Monday - Friday, weekdays. Occasional evenings/weekends, as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY:Provides software and network support, training, and troubleshooting in a networked microcomputer environment. Provides support on various applications, including Windows, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office, and eClinicalWorks.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as software support to the Agency, providing technical assistance. Respond to user requests for service and determine the nature and extent of support needed. Provides support or refers to the appropriate staff member.

  • Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots a wide range of software used throughout the Agency. Performs hardware/software upgrades to existing computer equipment as needed. VMware/Hyper-V administration and maintenance.

  • Respond to software problem calls on-site or over the phone for users. Investigate error messages and determine resolution. Reinstall programs or replace files that are causing errors. Calls software vendor or accesses online technical support to obtain software upgrades. Investigate appropriate areas of potential problems and determine resolution.

  • Provides Windows network support Agency-wide, which includes installing networked application software, granting access to users, creating user groups, managing shared resources, installing peripherals, and configuring user computers for security.

  • Contact software vendors to obtain specifications, pricing, and other purchase-related information to guide departments in selecting software. May assist in negotiating site licenses and coordinate volume purchase arrangements for standard software packages.

  • Trains users in startup, basic, and advanced use of software programs, including e-mail, Microsoft Office, and Windows network operating system. May provide group training on request.

  • Develops job aids for tasks performed in software applications. Sets up batch files or procedures to facilitate software installation by other support staff or to help users in their specific tasks.

  • Maintains up-to-date expertise in operating and applying the standard microcomputer software and a working knowledge of a wide variety of commonly used hardware and software.

  • Meets with and advises management and other staff in software design, implementation, and configuration. Advises supervisor in setting and updating standards for microcomputer software. Assists in the evaluation and testing of microcomputer software and in planning for future needs.

  • Coordinates departmental application software purchases and provides license tracking on all centrally purchased packages, such as anti-virus and office suites, as requested.

  • Performs other related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline preferred; Associate’s degree in computer science or related discipline and two (2) years relevant experience preferred; or a high school diploma and equivalent technical training and certifications to enable the performance of all aspects of the position required.

  • Ability to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain all software applications and the Agency's peripheral equipment.

  • Advanced skills in personal computer word processing, spreadsheets, databases, DOS and Windows.

  • Ability to analyze and assess problems and unusual situations and develop solutions.

  • Knowledge of the health care industry and the role of IT in health care preferred.

  • Knowledge of how to assemble and disassemble personal computer components, including cabling preferred.

  • Ability to organize and execute work logically.

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp.

  • Ability to sit for long periods.

  • Ability to tolerate extensive exposure to computer monitor/screen.

  • Ability to tolerate extensive use of computer keyboard.
