DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Position Title:  Manager Tax -- Transaction (M2)

Role Position is responsible for all aspects of transactional (telecommunication, sales, and use) taxes for the affiliated group under the direction of the Tax Director.  Areas of involvement include determining the taxability of transactions and compliance, and analysis.  This includes interpreting and applying the laws of all fifty states, Puerto Rico and Canada as well as the various municipalities and counties to the multiple companies and various entity types owned by Crown Castle. 

Responsibilities  * Work effectively with transactional tax software (Avalara/Vertex), ERP software (JD Edwards/Oracle), and the IT Department to ensure proper compliance with tax laws and internal policies.  * Manage transactional tax accounting activities including review and approval of tax returns and payments, customer exemptions and credits, account reconciliations and analysis, journal entries, and reporting.  * Manage transactional tax compliance, including oversight of external compliance service provider that prepares and files all state and local transaction tax returns.  * Manage the preparation and submission of Federal Form 499A and state telecommunication gross receipts tax filings.  * Manage all aspects of customer and vendor, exemption certificates, ensuring all documents are maintained to support transaction tax collection and remittance.  * Act as liaison to external service provider that handles tax exemption certificate collection and review of customer certificates.  * Partner with Supply Chain and Accounts Payable to minimize use tax in compliance with tax law.  * Collaborate with the business to provide accurate tax estimates on an as needed basis.  * Supervise, train and mentor transactional tax staff.  * Assist in integration efforts by managing transaction tax aspects for newly formed entities, acquired entities, new lines of business, and new systems.  * Manage government transaction tax audits including assigning and supervising tax staff and defending Crown Castle to reduce overall audit assessments.  * Ensure that all transactional tax procedures are documented and updated in accordance with Crown Castle policies and tax law.

Education/Certifications  * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience

Experience/Minimum Requirements  * Five (5)+ years tax and accounting experience with an emphasis in transactional tax and related matters

Expectations  * Experience in telecommunications, communication towers, or construction strongly preferred  * Knowledge and experience with accounting systems and transaction tax software. Experience with Avalara, Vertex, JD Edwards, and/or Oracle is helpful but not required  * Ability to work well with people in an office environment  * Ability to interact professionally on a daily basis with vendors, customers, consultants and lessors  * Prior supervision of staff is helpful, but not required  * Proficient in Microsoft Excel to manage and manipulate large datasets  * Personal computer skills and application knowledge

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in the office on Monday through Thursday.  On Fridays, teammates on the hybrid schedule will have the option to work from the office or home.  The e is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
