General Dynamics Mission Systems Advanced Mechanical Engineer in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 2025-65103 Basic Qualifications Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience. CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. Responsibilities for this Position Undersea Systems, a business area within the General Dynamics Mission Systems company, is a high-tech business focusing on software and hardware system integration, cutting-edge research and development, and manufacturing. We deliver architectures, designs, testing, and production of the current and next generation torpedo guidance and control systems for the Department of Defense providing the warfighter with advanced capabilities in target detection, acquisition, and prosecution. We are a technology leader in numerous areas including technology insertion; acoustic sensors; signal processing; guidance; cyber secure; and high reliability systems. As an Advanced Mechanical Engineer in our Undersea Systems Business Area, you will be a member of a cross functional team responsible for the design and development of ruggedized electronics equipment for the United States Navy and directly contribute to the technical and production success of our programs through hands-on technical contributions and leadership opportunities. Duties and Tasks: Participate in cross-functional teams to develop ruggedized electronics assemblies for use across various Torpedo platforms Support all phases of proposals, research, development, manufacture, test, and documentation for Torpedo Systems Support all phases of development, manufacture, and test for Torpedo Systems test equipment Lead mechanical design efforts for developing various Torpedo (and related test) Systems Design and analyze components and electro-mechanical assemblies to meet contract requirements to survive harsh environmental conditions (shock, vibration, thermal) Produce and review part fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and Bill of Materials using SolidWorks CAD and Windchill EPDM while adhering to ASME standards (Y14.100, Y14.5) Develop fixtures and equipment to support testing and production efforts Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer or Government Officials Preset technical presentations for new designs or to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer or Government Officials Perform peer reviews to support various mechanical tasks across the Business Area Work closely with manufacturing and produciton to resolve emergent issues in a timely manner to support development and production schedules/ customer commitments What sets you apart: Strong proficiency with modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and drawings Extensive knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods, as well as technical, government, and industry standards Collaborative, creative thinker with experience leading complex projects Commitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others Experience with ruggedized electronics packaging for Naval applications a plus Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) a plus Strong communication skills with ability to write technical papers and proposals Strong attention to detail Experience with ANSYS Finite Element Analysis tools a plus Experience with thermal and structural design of electronic systems a plus Experience using SolidWorks CAD a plus Electronics packaging design experience a plus

Target salary range: USD $110,175.00/Yr. - USD $122,225.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.).
