Bureau of Land Management Assistant Field Manager (Minerals and Lands) in Canon City, Colorado

Summary This position is located in the Bureau of Land Management, Royal Gorge Field Office, in Canon City, Colorado. Responsibilities Provide direction in all phases of the organization's program, work responsibilities and authorities by providing supervision, leadership and guidance to staff. Assist the Field Manager in providing leadership, motivation, direction and decisions required to implement and carry out multiple use and ecosystem management of major minerals and lands resources. Direct and manage the work through two or fewer subordinate supervisors. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet ALL of the specialized experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience GS-13: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing all THREE of the following duties: (1) managing a complex energy, lands, minerals, or realty program; (2) supervising a wide variety of specialists providing leadership, motivation, direction of an organization; (3) executing administrative supervisory duties such as work assignment distribution, performance management, ethics management, recruitment, and/or financial management. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Education There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement. Additional Information Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service). Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Physical Demands: Work is primarily in an office setting. There is frequent travel to field sites via four wheel drive vehicles, fixed wing aircraft, helicopter, and boats. There is a potential for adverse climatic conditions. Field work involves walking, bending and climbing on steep and rough terrain. Working Conditions: Most work is in an office setting. Field sites involve exposure to adverse weather, i.e., rain, snow, cold and/or heat. Some outdoor work requires special safety precautions. Incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer.
