EHS Coordinator

Reports to:

Vice President Human Resources

Summary/Objective

The environmental, health, and safety (EHS) coordinator will provide technical EHS knowledge and resources to the manufacturing and maintenance departments. This will be accomplished by improving existing EHS programs, developing, coordinating, and delivering relevant training programs, and building rapport and working relationships with employees. In addition, the EHS coordinator will be responsible for conducting risk assessments, monitoring corrective actions, and identifying previously undiscovered or new EHS hazards.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with operations, engineering, human resources, legal, and research and development staff.

  • Provide technical EHS support and research as needed.

  • Prepare and revise written EHS programs and policies.

  • Identify company safety training needs and develop, coordinate, and deliver relevant training to fill those needs.

  • Participate in the risk assessments for new or changing operations or equipment.

  • Compare existing risk assessments to current processes, ensuring severity level, frequency level, and controls in place are appropriate.

  • Use the proper application of hazard controls to reduce risk as effectively as possible.

  • Research and assist in the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Develop materials for operations personnel to use when conducting toolbox talks.

  • Lead location-specific safety committee meetings.

  • Participate in safety committee inspections. Follow up on resulting action items.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Federal and State regulations in all aspects of EHS.

  • Review current incident reports, past injury data, and worker’s compensation information to identify relevant trends and recommend improvements.

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does coach operations personnel on safety and risk mitigation strategies.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications

Preferred Education and Experience:

0 – 5 years of EHS experience, heavy manufacturing experience preferred

B.S. in EHS, safety science, engineering, industrial hygiene, or related discipline. GSP, ASP, or CSP preferred
