Imperative Care Principal Machinist in Campbell, California

Job Title: Principal Machinist

Location : This position is based in our Campbell, California offices. This position is On-site and full-time

What You’ll Do

The primary function of the Principal Machinist will be to oversee the daily activities of the prototyping shop, to operate and maintain shop equipment (manual and NC) as well as aid and facilitate concept development, ideation, and prototyping with the R&D team.  The Principal Machinist will produce and/or repair tooling, fixtures, and assemblies for engineering and production according to specifications.  The Principal Machinist will be knowledgeable in safe machine shop practices and will serve as a liaison to train individuals on proper usage and shop etiquette.

  • Produce prototypes and tools/fixtured using manual, semi-automated or automated (NC) equipment.

  • Engage with internal stakeholders as well as external job shops, vendors, and suppliers in the procurement and manufacture of prototypes, fixtures, and production tooling.

  • Accurately read and understand engineering drawings, CNC programs (g-code), and work instructions to ensure proper set-up requirements, sequence operations, and dimensions and tolerance levels of finished product.

  • Fabricate parts/assemblies per specifications and delivery schedules, including 3d printed components

  • Perform required math computations associated with fabrication.

  • Strong working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Complete extensive machining tasks for tooling and fixtures.

  • Assist engineers in the design, development, and assembly of tooling and equipment.

  • Knowledge of metallurgical and polymeric properties.

  • Review and provide feedback and recommendations on drawings or instructions to understand specification of output and provide feedback as needed to improve function, machinability, and costs of the parts being produced.

  • Perform inspection of parts using various dimensional tooling.

  • Maintain a clean and organized machine shop and equipment to ensure they are functional, reliable, and safe.

  • Maintain appropriate stock of wear items used for machining parts

  • Maintain 3d print area and equipment

  • Maintain appropriate stock of raw materials for machining and printing basic parts

  • Performs routine maintenance tasks on machines as required.

  • Propose process improvements and participate in company quality, health, and safety programs.

  • Train other personnel on best and safe equipment use practices to ensure their safety and the safety of others around them.

  • Confer with engineering, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly challenges.

  • Set-up and verify the functionality and safety of equipment.

    What You’ll Bring

  • HS diploma and a minimum of 8+ years related experience preferably in the medical device industry.

  • Knowledge of and exposure to product manufacturing, testing, and data collection.

  • Should possess strong math skills.

  • Familiar with GMP and GDP procedures and requirements desired.

  • Ability to work independently or in team setting required.

  • Familiar with using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, mills, grinders etc.)

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

  • Good interpersonal skills, effective interaction with Operations and other departments

    Salary Range: $100,000 – 132,000 annually
