Responsibilities NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Maintenance Worker JOB SERIES: 4749 PAY LEVEL: NA-06/07/08 STATEMENT OF DIFFERENCE: This position¿s pay level is NA-06/07/08. NA06- Performs all duties and responsibilities of the current PD under direct supervision/instruction for six (6) months at a minimum rating of acceptable on the employee performance appraisal to qualify for NA07. NA07- Performs all duties and responsibilities of the current PD at the above NA06 requirements and under limited to no supervision/instruction for an additional six (6) months at a minimum rating of acceptable on the employee performance appraisal to qualify for NA08. NA08- Performs all duties and responsibilities of the current PD at the above NA07 requirements and under limited to no supervision for an additional six (6) months. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Working alone or as a member of a crew, performs the day-to-day maintenance and repair of MCCS¿s unique facilities, buildings, related fixtures, utilities, playing fields, child-youth, and community playgrounds and equipment aboard all Marine Corps installations on Okinawa and their satellite facilities. Typical tasks performed are as follows: Performs basic carpentry work on a variety of wooden items such as structures, both interior and exterior. Repairs or replaces cracked, broken or rotten wood; installs or removes authorized partitions and dividers; repairs and fabricates shelving, doors, windows, picture or poster frames, furniture, sign boards; fabricates or repairs game equipment; fabricates bulletin boards, black boards, sit-up boards; repairs or replaces basketball backboards, tennis court backboards; repairs or replaces fences on baseball fields, tennis courts, hand ball courts, etc., and repairs or replaces wooden seats on all bleachers. Performs basic electrical work such as removing and replacing light fixtures, starters, ballasts, tubes, etc.; and replacing broken or defective fuses, switches, outlets and circuit breakers. Installs or removes electricity operated equipment such as woodworking machines, fans and exhaust fans, both 110V and 220V. Performs basic repairs of electrical motor driven power tools and motors, replacing or repairing brushes, switches, cords and sockets. Performs corrosion control and touch up painting of buildings and complete painting of weather exposed equipment and facilities (i.e., bleachers, dug outs, backstops, pavement stripping, etc.) utilizing sand blaster, primer and/or rust inhibitor prior to finish paint application(s). Performs cement work in the form of building wooden forms, laying cement block, brick, tile, and terra cotta, pouring and finishing slabs and roofs of concrete structures. Repairs or replaces defective toilet commode parts such as faucets and flush valves; cleans clogged drains and traps; replaces defective pipes, fittings, and connections; and replacing gaskets and repacking valves. Assists with basic welding work in connection with repairing of metal items such as bowling alley machines, weightlifting equipment, fences, bleachers, and athletic/sports equipment. Repairs or installs on site metal baseball backstops, basketball backstops, football goal posts, and soccer goals. Duties may include class III & IV ACM related maintenance and repair, in accordance with MCIPAC Asbestos Program requirements. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other related or incidental duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment See Duties and Qualifications EVALUATIONS: Qualifications BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must be at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or, have completed a formal vocational training program; or, have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with preference for employment rather than continuing education. (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.) 2. Must have 6 months of experience in one of related work trades. - To be hired at Grade-7, candidate must have one year of working experience in carpentry, electrical, painting, cement, plumbing and welding trades, and ability to read sketches, diagrams, and specifications. - To be hired at Grade-8, candidate must have two years of working experience in carpentry, electrical, painting, cement, plumbing and welding trades, and ability to read sketches, diagrams, and specifications. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must have, or be able to obtain, 32 hours of Operations & Maintenance in Asbestos Maintenance Work. 2. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Owned Vehicle (GOV) driver's license to operate vehicles up to 6.5-ton capacity, including forklift. 3. Ability to visually examine and/or perform operational tests to determine the needs and types of repair work to be performed. 4. Ability to operate equipment such as welding machines, air compressors, generators, and cement mixers. 5. Skills in the use of a variety of hand tools commensurate with construction work (i.e., electrical drills, earth augers, motor driven skill saws, electrical sanders, band saws, drill press, sheet metal shears, and electrical test equipment and meters).
