Skills
Must demonstrate a strong ability to conceptualize and create solutions for complex design requirements, specializing in North American Auto Manufacturer Machine Build Standards
Must demonstrate a strong ability to quickly and effectively analyze concepts and designs for viability, reliability and risk.
Must be capable of participating in design and detail drawing package reviews while providing feedback to design department team members.
Must be able to critique designs and provide feedback based on North American Automaker standards.
Must be capable of presenting detailed concepts in front of customers.
Must be proficient in AutoCAD, Solidworks and Microsoft Office.
Must be capable of working as part of a team.
Must be capable of giving and taking direction.
Must have strong written and oral communication abilities.
Able to independently complete all specific responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Specific Responsibilities
Responsible for the conceptual development of automation solutions for new proposals.
Support applications work for the development/concepting and quoting of North American Auto Maker and other automation projects.
Produces layout drawings or station concepts in either AutoCAD or Solidworks.
Perform engineering calculations in order to validate a systems concept.
Review designs from team members, provide guidance and mentorship.
Develop technical specifications for customers and vendors.
Source and interact with third party vendors and suppliers in the quoting and design process to help develop final solutions.
Develop new standards in design and manufacturing in order to bring innovation and lower cost to proposals and design work. Be prepared to provide training courses to the Mechanical Design Department on relevant subjects.
Provides detailed estimates of mechanical design hours associated with each concept/ design.
Excellent ATS working knowledge based on previous work history, ATS and/or North American Automotive capabilities and standards
Works with other members of the Mechanical Engineering department and other teams to continuously improve methods and tools for Mechanical design, driving enhanced modularity, standardization, and functionality.
Travels to the customer’s site to assist in system development, working with engineering design specifications, objectives and standards.
General Responsibilities

Qualifications
Education:
- A post secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent.
Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design, development and qualification of factory automation projects.
A minimum of 5 years working directly with North American Auto Maker Specification compliant equipment at Auto Makers facilities.
Proven leadership qualities including; good oral and written communication skills, ability to lead and motivate members of the Mechanical Design department, and a willingness to take responsibility for key aspects needed for job completion.
