Job Description
TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I/OPTOGENETICS HISTOLOGY AND IMMUNOLOGY SPECIALIST, McGovern Institute for Brain Research-Synthetic Neurobiology Group (https://syntheticneurobiology.org/) , to join a group that is advancing our understanding of neuro-immunology in the context of optogenetic protein delivery for therapeutic purposes. Will be instrumental in assisting with the performance of animal work directly related to neuro-immunology experiments involving optogenetics; and contribute to the investigation of immune responses evoked by virus delivery, assessing subsequent impact on neurological function and collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary team to design, implement, and optimize experimental protocols. Responsibilities will include analyzing specific biological specimens from mouse models, perfusions, sectioning, performing immunofluorescent staining, and performing optical microscopy for specimen tissue imaging; analyzing imaging data to derive biologically and medically useful conclusions; developing, revising, and/or implementing procedures with the team; recognizing problems/situations that are new and inventing or finding solutions; and performing related duties as assigned. Will also participate in the preparation of manuscripts, grant proposals, and project documentation.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree, preferably in bioengineering, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biological engineering, immunology, or related field; at least two years of experience with immunofluorescent staining, confocal microscopy, and tissue processing (e.g., perfusion, sectioning, and clearing); knowledge of research and work related to chemical biospecimen processing; excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, time-management, documentation, interpersonal, and communication skills; attention to detail; and ability to work independently and with remote team members/collaborators. PREFERRED: familiarity with scientific programming (e.g., Python) and image processing software (e.g., FIJI). Job #23248 9/27/23
